I’ve been busy this week. I finished the proposal for Jax books three and four. I was writing book three, Doubleblind, until my editor slid revisions for Corine Solomon #1 my way. I hope to have a title for that soon!
And guess what? Eileen Wilks emailed me last night to let me know our workshop for RWA National in SF this year has been approved. You read that right. I’m doing a panel with Eileen Wilks, Catherine Asaro, and Cindy Hwang, called Writing–and Selling–Crossover Fiction. (It’s okay for you to be impressed; I’m impressed as heck myself.)
But wait, there’s more! I also got a box of beautiful ARCs for Grimspace this week. Who wants one?
In comments, tell me why I should hook you up with a free book**, and eight days from now, I’ll evaluate your entries and pick a winner.
**extra points will be given to those who appeal to my ego and flatter me within an inch of my life. Funny is always welcome. No credit whatsoever will be given to comments of five words of less. You’re gonna have to think on this one!

Ann, it’s too early to think! And I haven’t even had coffee but because you’re awesome and I really want to read Grimspace, I’ll try. Just for you. Because you’re awesome, have I mentioned that?
Congratulations on the workshop news! I’m very much impressed.
So let’s get down to business - why should you hooke me up with an ARC of your book? Because I’m awesome. And really we Awesome People needs to stick together!
And you’re guarranteed that I will blog about it in different places and spread the word on how fantastic your books is because sure, I haven’t read it yet but any book with that hot of a cover has to be good, you know?
So yeah me + ARC of Grimspace = Happy Ann. Right?
January 19th, 2008 at 9:12 am
AND I’m also the first comment, wooo!
January 19th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
exciting, evocative and suspenseful- after
reading these 3 words who wouldn’t want to
read the book and see what goes on!! I sure
would like to and would like to thank you for
being so kind and generous.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Oooh!~ So cool And hey, I’m awesome too, Wendy. AND I already blogged about how great Ann is before I even knew about this contest.
I deserve to win because: When I grow up I want to be just like Ann Aguirre who lives in gorgeous sunny Mexico, takes terrific vacations, has a maid, a poinsettia tree outside her office window and, oh yeah, signed with an agent, contracted two trilogies AND had an email from La Nora—all in one year! If I hadn’t read her stuff and realized how incredibly talented she is, I would have been ugly khaki green jealous instead of just attractive pale spring green envious. Kidding Annie. You deserve it, babe! Can’t wait for Grimspace (Is the spare room ready for me?)
And mega congrats on the workshop. Wow. you are movin’ and shakin’!
January 19th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Because …..I need Grimspace
, the teaser has me hooked. The release date is sooo far away. It’s written by an awesome author writes books that I can drift into.
*Imagining getting lost in Grimspace*
January 19th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
because your such a wonderful sweet person. And you definately wanna pick me cause I would blog about your book to help you promote it. free publicity… i would say chocolate bribe but then i would have to know where you lived too… but i am willing! chocolate and free publicity how much better does it get??? cause i know your sweet and angelic and just love me
January 19th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
because I’ll cry?
KIDDING! Seriously don’t enter me. I’m more than happy to buy it. Just wanted to say congrats on getting your hot little hands on those arcs!
January 19th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Lainey, I admit you’re awesome too but Ann and I are on a whole brilliant level of awesomeness that you, unfortunately, haven’t achieved yet BUT you’re well on your way.
January 19th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
..Grasshopper.
sorry, just had to add it. *g*
January 19th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Cause I’ve never read anything of your but your brilliant blogs and you would hook a reader that would buy every book you write from now and and who would tell her many and numerous friends both on and off the net. Also since I have a senior in high school i am too poor to pay attention right now and will probably be from now until he graduates college any free books would be greatly appriciated. Though have another must buy author just might make me cry really.
January 19th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Hi Ann,

Yay for your workshop being approved! So I thought about this all day - and one thing that keeps coming to mind is: You’re pretty - haha, and that’s not meant in the creepy way or anything.
Let’s see- I should win the book because I am a poor law student who can’t even afford food. Seriously - I’ve been known to eat plain lettuce for lunch - if I even get to. (Is the pathetic card working? So unfortunately, buying books for fun is low on the priority list.) Also, because you’re amazing, write fabulous books, and everyone would want one! Heck, I’d be willing to fight someone for one!
I have more - after reading the excerpt, I *have* to have it - I’ll just *die* if I don’t! And have pity on me - its only 1 degree outside right now, and my poor frozen fingers can barely type this pleading message!
Lastly, because you’re nice, fun, an extremely generous person, and have a great sense of humor. *And* you like lolcats! So, if bribery works… if I win, I’ll send you a cheezburger
January 19th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Ohmygod, Ann - you like LOLcats? I loveLOLcats! I swear, if I had a cat, I would be taking pictures and submitting them all the time!
January 20th, 2008 at 5:15 am
I’m deserving of a free book because I don’t know if the novel has UK rights - and if it doesn’t have UK rights then it probably won’t make it to Australia. And I don’t have the budget to be ordering more stuff after my eBay shopping bonanza. Me bad.
Pick me because I can help promote your book on my various blogs and reading urban/fantasy communities…and I can invite you to guest blog or I’ll interview you. Tezzy loves bribes
Have a lovely day!
January 20th, 2008 at 8:06 am
Whoever wins this ARC is in for a treat! I’m reading it and Ann it is AWESOME!!! Jax is great!!! (I’m Sorry I haven’t emailed you yet–I just had to start reading it
!!)
January 20th, 2008 at 8:37 am
Wow, your answers are cracking me up, guys. Keep them coming!
And now we have an unsolicited testimonial from Laura J., my first winner. Thanks, Laura. I think Jax is pretty awesome.
January 20th, 2008 at 9:05 am
Not that it matters, but I vote for JSL (having been in her shoes and having lived mostly on rice and coffee for a year). I’ll be buying this when I see it in the store.
January 20th, 2008 at 9:39 am
And Wendy, I am so too on my own little brilliant level of awesomeness!
January 20th, 2008 at 9:58 am
Hey, if you want to compare pathetic levels, I’m so winning this lol but because I don’t want to embarrassed myself (although it might posibly be too late for that) I’m not gonna say anything.
Lainey, it’s okay grasshopper, you will soon be as awesome as Ann and I.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:19 am
Well, you know I avoid straight contemporaries ’cause they just aren’t my flavor. But damned if I didn’t love Ms. Annie Dean’s “Guide” and “Alibi”- hell, you even made me cry!
Well, Sci-fi isn’t my flavor either (although I have read a few erotic ones). But I just HAVE to know if you can win me over in this genre, too! And I have a feeling, with your talent for character development, you just might turn me into a Sci-fi fan– or at least an Ann Aguirre fan!
Yep, yep- brown-nosin’ to the Nth degree. But is it brown-nosin’ if it’s true?
January 20th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
Man, I love reading all these tasty answers. They’re better than chicken soup for the soul.
PS — I’m probably gonna pick my favorite and then I might just select a couple of random winners too. Cos I do have a whole box of ARCs here, and I feel generous.
January 20th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Yay! so glad you feel generous. See? Just another reason you’re made of Awesome!
January 20th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
You should send me an ARC because:
1. I review and you know I’m gonna want to review this.
2. You already have my address.
3. I’m going to need a matching set of Grimspace stuff, of course. Next on my buy list is the sheet set.
4. Because you really don’t want my collection of Laurell K Hamilton signed stuff to out number my collection of Ann Aguirre signed stuff, now do you?
5. Because I’m cool. Like super duper cool.
6. Because I am one step away from being your Rabid FanGirl ™ and you want the good ones right?
January 20th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
If you give *me* the ARC, I’ll let you write a feeder question for me to ask during the Q&A period of the panel. You know, a question that seems hard but you’re already prepared for it, so you get to display your mad skills.
January 20th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Lorelie, you’re gonna be in SF this year? We have to get together for drinks!
Carrie and I are rooming together again this year, and I think we’re gonna host a PJ party thing in our room this time with snacks, snark and plenty of book-talk. You should definitely come to that too!
January 20th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Dear Ann
I would LOVE to win a free copy of Grimspace because I need your genius in my bathroom. You see, I have been cursed this month with the worst run of bad luck. Not only did I get a lady infection of the pee-pee hole, but I also got a yeast infection (of the lady lady hole) AND my first ever case of arse grapes. NOT SEXY.
I have been spending more than a polite amount of time in my bathroom with various lotions, potions and awkward positionings. I never knew grabbing my ankles could be so tedious…
I sit there for up to an hour bored and in burning, itchy, ouch-bum pain. I could really do with something intersting and engrossing to read while my girlie basement rages with OMG WTF IZ THAT!?!!1
Plus, when I am done I would tell all my pals about the book and spread you some sales opportunities by word of mouth. (I always review anyway)
So what do you say? Help a poor lassie with a sore downstairs out. Me and my lady garden would really appreciate it.
January 20th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Yep, I’m gonna be there. Already hooked up my Grandma to come down and stay with the kids while I’m gone.
So I’ll definitely be down for a drink and a PJ party.
Actually, I knew you were rooming with Carrie. I’m probably rooming with a couple other ladies from our crit group and we talked about getting rooms adjacent/nearby each other. (Where’s the halo smiley when I need it? *g*)
January 20th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
hmm not going to work huh, your been seeing my kids online witching on me huh
cause i have no life and live for books
January 21st, 2008 at 1:48 pm
You should send me an ARC because
1. I am a poor graduate student and there are a ton of books coming out that I want and can’t afford and it would really help me out to get at least one of them for free!
2. I am really good at getting people to read books. I worked at bookstores for six years, and still have a lot of friends in the industry, who take my recommendations seriously and pass them on to their customers. Plus I have a Good Reads account and post reviews fairly regularly.
3. Because I live in Minneapolis, and right now it’s too cold to do anything but read!
4. Because I read on the bus, and I know if were to read Grimspace, it would be so good that I would miss my stop and go five miles out of my way. BUT then I’d discover a new bead store and an excellent Middle Eastern restaurant, plus I’d ask the bus driver when I could catch the next bus, and as we get to talking, I’d notice how cute he is, and he’d ask for my number. We’d date awhile, and it turns out that a. he has his Masters in English lit b. he writes songs and c. he has a secret ambition to live wherever it is I get a teaching job, so when I graduate, he moves there to be with me, and eventually we marry and thank you in our wedding vows, for writing such an awesome book! But if I don’t read Grimspace, maybe I’ll never meet the man of my dreams!
January 21st, 2008 at 1:49 pm
You should hook me up with a free autographed copy of Grimspace because you love to give thanks to the cover gods.
There are many more reasons than that*, but I’m certain that’s the only one that matters.
* - the other reasons being:
1. I happen to love science fiction.
2. It’s been on my Amazon Wish List forever, waiting to be pre-ordered.
3. I always keep autographed copies, so you need never fear the ARC being given away and later resold without benefit of royalties.
4. I review print books I read on GoodReads, so it will eventually pop up there, and the review will be honest, which I know you like.
5. If your return address is on it, I may just send you a crocheted project some day.
January 22nd, 2008 at 5:55 pm
These are some great reasons! Dang, it’s gonna be hard to choose.
January 23rd, 2008 at 6:42 am
Because I *really* wanna read this book and i’m still suffering in the hoo-ha area, I attempt to make you giggle with the KITTEHZ!!1

[...] don’t miss out on the Grimspace ARC contest over on the Bradford Bunch. That runs until January 27 when I announce the [...]
January 24th, 2008 at 10:29 am
I should win an ARC of Grimspace because my human sexuality class is being taught my a 400 pound trekkie.
Side note: Not that there is anything wrong with being 400 pounds. Or a trekkie. The combination has thrown me for a loop. Maybe it’s my pre-conceived notions (read stereotypes) about trekkies. Do they get much action? Yeah I’m gonna stop now.
January 25th, 2008 at 10:44 am
Are lolcats not allowed? I posted these days ago but they seem to be wiped. Just in case it was an accident, here are my attempts at luring Ann with kitteh fun!

I would LOVE an ARC, knowing that I am in no way worthy. But I love your writing so much, and would be so grateful. And I offer my thanks in advance….
