Autumn makes me sing,
Winter’s pretty lousy,
But I hate Spring.
- Dorothy Parker
I’m under two deadlines at the moment. One is for edits to Witch Blood and the other is for The Darkest Kiss. It’s amazing how much deadlines drain me of creativity for everything else. The creativity suck only happens when I’m crunched, fortunately. Right now, I’m crunched. (Not badly. I’m not going to miss any of them.)
So, today, since I’m at a loss for anything to blog about, I want you to tell me something. I’ll give away three prizes, awarded by random drawing to three different winners. One autographed copy of Witch Fire, and two downloads from my EC backlist.
The summer is nearly over and autumn is settling in. What did you for your summer “vacation”?

I swam in the pool a lot, but I mainly watched my nieces and nephew everyday. I did read a lot of awesome books this summer.

I was laid off most of the summer, so we didn’t do a lot. We went boating & swimming mostly & had cookouts.

Good morning, Anya. I went to Hawaii on a cruise to celebrate my 20th wedding anniversary. We had planned on going a few years ago and then I lost my job so we just moved the trip to a better time and that was this summer. I had a blast!

My twin sister and mom watched the kids one weekend so hubby and I could have a romantic stay at a bed and breakfast. It was in June for our anniversary.

I began my third attempt at novel writing (started out as Seventy Days of Sweat, but has now morphed into my own Write 85,000 Words in 100 Days). I have every intention of greeting November 19th by cresting that number.
I also met (what I thought) was the man of my dreams, had sex for the first time, and got dumped a few weeks later. Ha! I’m doing quite well really, the only thing I lost was my virginity and that wasn’t really something I wanted anymore anyway. =)
This week I’ll get to visit with my favorite cousin and her two kid (ages two and five, respectively), whom I consider my surrogate nephew and niece. I’ve also spent time helping/supporting my mom in her efforts to care for her mom (my grandmother), whom we had to move into a rest home earlier this year.
Oh, and I read WITCH FIRE–fantastic book! The pages nearly scorched my fingertips and I’m dying to read follow-ups. (Part of my effort to bone up on the paranormal and romance markets while drafting my own ms).
Not terribly exciting or interesting, but I’ve enjoyed myself.

Lay under the fan and prayed for rain.

My husband, my daughter and I went to Michigan to visit family. It was very hot the first few days and then it rained the rest of the vacation. Had a lot of time to catch up on family doings.

I had my son home from college, along with an extra friend, who had no where to go, so I felt like a den mother. Cleaning, because he still counts as company, and lots of cooking, because they never get full! I did sneak out to Starbuck’s thru out the week and had my caffeine fix and some reading time. Those moments kept me sane. And I loved Witch Fire, can’t wait to read Witch Blood.

My husband and I were just talking about “How I spent my my summer vacation” from Cheech and Chong the other day. I know this dates me, but does anyone remember this:
TEACHER:
Good morning, class. Good morning, class. Class? Class!? SHUT UP!!!!! Thank you.
As you know your regular teacher Sister Rosetta Stone is on a small vacation. However she does send her love, at least fingerpaintings, and desk club she`s making. I am your substitute teacher, Sister Mary Elephant.
Class, attention. Attention, class! Class? SHUT UP!!!!! Thank you.
Young man, now give me that knife. Thank you.
Now class, you all know who I am, so let`s find out who you are.
Class? Class!? SHUT UP!!!!!
CHONG:
Far out, man!
TEACHER:
Thank you.
Now class, Sister Rosetta has informed me that your assignment for the last two months has been to write an essay in titled How I Spent My Summer Vacation. Who would like to read theirs before the class?
Class? Class!? Cla– SHUT UP!!!!! Thank you.
Young man in the first row, stand up, state your name, and read your essay.
STUDENT:
Who me?
TEACHER:
Yes. Read your essay, please!
STUDENT:
Uh, I don`t have it finished yet.
TEACHER:
Well then, read what you have, young man!
STUDENT:
Okay. The first day on my vacation, what I did on my summer vacation, the first day on my vacation, I woke up. Then, I went downtown to a quiet job. Then I hung out in front of the drugstore. The second day on my summer vacation, I woke up, then I went downtown to look for a job. Then I hung out in front of the drugstore. The third day on my summer vacation, I woke up…
TEACHER:
Now that`s fine, young man!
STUDENT :
…Then I went downtown to look for a job…
TEACHER:
Now that`s fine, young man!

TEACHER:
Young man? Young man? Young man!? SHUT UP!!!!! Thank you.
Now class, I have a surprise for you! I`m going to read you some poems out of this lovely book of poetry. The sun kisses the morning skies. The birds kiss the butterflies. The dew kisses the morning grass. Class? Class!? Cla– WAKE UP!!!!!

I can relate wholeheartedly, Anya. In the same boat and trying my darndest to come up with something original even on the novel front.
Good luck with your deadlines!
As for summer vacation, I pretty much did what I do all year long–played with the kids and hubby, wrote a bunch and read a little, and tried to keep up at the day job. ho hum…I need a real vacation one day soon.
