Happy Wednesday everyone. I decided to do a video blog today, enjoy the sneak peak at my first ever book, HIS DARKEST HUNGER.
Right now I’m learning to adapt in my career and basically in my life since writing is a huge part of it. I’ve recently come to a grinding halt, not of my choice, and now I have to deal with it. It’s been difficult and trying and emotional, and I’ve had more than one teary moment…
It’s been hard. But last night something happened. I realized that there was a big chunk of my love of writing, a big part of my overall dream, that I wasn’t doing anymore. And that’s screenwriting. It came to my notice after I entered a online writing contest on a whim, to see if I could do it, and well I got my scores back from my scene and yes, I CAN DO IT and well if I do say so myself.
So, I’ve decided I’ve been given a gift…the gift of time. And I’m going to use it to rediscover my love for screenwriting…and who knows what may happen. I came close twice 7 years ago to realizing that dream…now I have years of writing experience, industry experience, and contacts. It may be a whole different story this time around…
And speaking of movies, there are a bunch coming out in the next few months based on books. Lots of adaptations going on.
Where the Wild Things Are - beloved children’s book brought to life in live action
Fantastic Mr. Fox - another children’s book coming to the screen, really interested to see what Wes Anderson does with this one
The Men Who Stare at Goats - should be hilarious, George Clooney involved with paranormal research done by the military
Lovely Bones - heartbreaking novel, I’m predicting some Oscar noms with this one
Cirque du Freak - Vampire’s Assistant - I’ve read the book, and it’s pretty dark, but the trailer for this makes it look very light and comedic
New Moon - the Twilight sequel, trailer looks awesome I have to admit
The Road - cannot wait for this, Viggo Mortensen in what is sure to be an Oscar nominated performance
And the one I really can’t wait to see…
Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief
Looking forward to any of these? If you could choose one book to be made into a movie what would it be, and who would star in it?
Hey all. It’s Ann Aguirre’s birthday today. And guess what, it’s my birthday tomorrow. So for all those birthday virgos out there, I am giving you this beautiful birthday present…
Eric Northman…
Enjoy…
I know I have, again and again and again…
If it was your birthday today, what would you wish for?
Wow, in just a bit over a month, my first contemporary erotic romance will be releasing from Berkley Heat! I’m pretty excited about Laid Bare. I’ve got a gorgeous cover, I really did love writing Erin, Todd and Ben’s story and it features two of my favorite things - Seattle and music!
Here’s the blurb:
Unexpected Desire…
It’s been ten years since clean-cut, sexy-as-hell police officer Todd Keenan had a white-hot fling with Erin Brown, the provocative, wild rocker chick next door. Their power exchange in the bedroom got under his skin. But love wasn’t in the cards just yet…
Now, life has thrown the pair back together. But picking up where they left off is tough, in light of a painful event from Erin’s past. As Todd struggles to earn her trust, their relationship takes an unexpected and exciting turn when Todd’s best friend, Ben, ends up in their bed—and all three are quite satisfied in this relationship without a name. As the passion they share transforms Erin, will it be enough to help her face the evil she thought she had left behind?
Here’s what some folks are saying about LAID BARE…
“Every once in a great while, a book comes along that moves and surprises you in all the best ways. LAID BARE is one of those books for me. I was blown away by Dane’s brilliant rendering of this emotionally-charged, deeply erotic tale of second chances and redemption. I can’t say it enough: I loved this book!” Sylvia Day, nationally bestselling author of Eve of Darkness
“Laid Bare is the hottest thing since Prometheus gave us fire. It’s also a tender love story that wrung my heart with its sweetness. Don’t miss this book.” –Ann Aguirre, national bestselling author of Blue Diablo
“It’s impossible not to love this story. The sex is sizzling, the emotions are raw. Lauren Dane has done it again. Laid Bare, quite simply, ROCKS!” — Megan Hart, author of DEEPER
In August’s RT Magazine, Laid Bare gets 4 1/2 stars and a Top Pick!
In a word, this book is amazing. All three characters are magnetic and thoroughly realistic. They’re expertly woven into a roller-coaster story that will have you crying one moment, aroused the next and laughing with glee at each triumphant step along the way. With menage and some mild M/M scenes, this is Dane’s best story yet!
Here’s the book video:
Starting Friday July 3, I’ll be running a contest all month long at my blog with books and authors’ favorite accessories - music, jewelry, scarves, socks, all kinds of stuff!
Good luck!
Hello all of you lovlies out there in Bradford land and happy hump day! Hope you’re all having a wonderful week and that the sun is shining wherever you are! Today is going to be somewhat of a random post because well, my life has been kinda random lately and honestly my mind is all over the place…..
First off….I have to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KRISTEN. My baby girl is 10 today! I can’t freaking believe it….my baby is double digits! sigh and the only thing this girl has asked for is a new mattress. Yep, a mattress! It was on her Christmas list and well, I thought she wasn’t serious….but obviously she was! I’ll take the simple requests while I can!
In other news I’m getting organized and very excited because Nationals is in dunno, six weeks? Last year was my first and it was amazing. I’m happy to say that my crit partners are once more making the trip and we all get to hang out! I’m also pumped cause I get to meets all these nice Bradford ladies in person. I get to put on my pajamas and hang with Ann Aguirre…. Little ole me! lounging in my skivvies with Ann! Sweet!
And I get to go to the Avon party….and crash the Harelquin party…..again!
As for book Recs…I just finished reading The Madness of Lord Ian MacKenzie by Jennifer Ashley. Can I just say how much I loved this little gem? It was delightful, real and well written. A great historical and I’m glad I picked it up.
What am I listening to? My Chemical Romance, BuckCherry and thanks to Miss Shelli Stevens I pulled out my old Alice in Chains cd, jar of flies…and yeah, enjoying. See, I’m not an ipod kinda gal…me likes my cd’s! And I’m still pissed that Adam lost American Idol, but whatever….he’ll be a huge star…u just wait and see!
What else? Oh ya, I don’t need HORNY KITTY following me on Twitter. Like really, I don’t. Stop or I will hunt you down and drown you in your own pool.
And on that note I will leave you with a video blog I recorded for my home blog. I’ve decided to do video blogs on Fridays. They’re fun and different ( and trust me, this one really is!) This particular one was done on a lark, recorded for this coming Friday! Not sure if it will make it onto the blog…it does contain some writing news so to speak, but well, it’s not really me. Or is it??? My son thought it was hilarious and so did I! What think you?
Ahh. Nothing like some good, old-fashioned procrastination. I wonder what writers did before they had the internet and were expected to blog, make book videos, do chats…
Hmmm. Did they all just…write?
What an amazing concept!
I have to admit, I love the fertoodliness of the internet and book vidoes and chatting and blogs. I love that connection with the “outside” world — and I put it in quotes because I’d probably never leave my house if I didn’t have to. I’ve become a hermit lately, preferring to snuggle under a blanket with my Alphasmart Neo on my lap rather than going to my used-to-be-favorite coffee shop to write…hey, it’s warm at home and if I take a little snooze, nobody’s the wiser.
But that won’t get the writing done, of course. So, how much of that internet stuff is necessary? See, I pass it off as promotion and tell myself it’s necessary, but the bottom line is…who knows? Having a presence online might help sell books. If you’re a doofus who doesn’t know how to behave in public, it actually might hurt your sales. But really, what it comes down to is writing a good book and having people enjoy it and talk about it, so you could let THEM talk about your book on the internet and you wouldn’t have to…
Hmmm.
But then what would I do with all me “free” time?
Here are two little suttin’ suttin’s I spent some time fertoodling with lately, instead of doing any writing/editing/polishing/critiquing or anything else.
Oh, and instead of mopping the floor, too.

Undercover is a TOP PICK in Romantic Times Book Reviews for December. Holy cupcakes. I haven’t even seen the magazine yet! December isn’t online (although it might be by the time this posts) so I was blissfully ignorant. But Jaci Burton, Maya Banks and I have a group ad in this upcoming issue and Jaci sent an email to say she got her issue and how pretty the ad looked. It was a cool email but it was the, “Oh and congrats on the Top Pick for Undercover, Lauren” at the end that made me gasp and read it twice more before emailing her back and asking, “Really? I did? OMG!!”
She kindly sent me the text of the review shortly thereafter so thanks, Jaci, for totally making my day!
OMG!!!!! I’ve never had a Top Pick before. Several 4 1/2 star reviews but never the top pick. I’m so freaking excited!!!!!
Here’s the review:
Dane has written a sizzling, delicious tale of love lost, found and expanded. The M/F/M triad is as endearing as it is molten hot. The friction between Sera and Ash as they resolve their past is intense, and with Brandt added to the mix, it’s nothing short of explosive. An adrenaline-filled, suspenseful subplot keeps the reader engaged.
Reviewed by Bella March.
Thanks so much to Bella March for the review.
Undercover comes out December 2 from Berkley Heat and it’s my verra first single title from a NY publisher. I’m not a newbie, I’ve got over two dozen published novels under my belt but this one is big for many reasons and I so want it to do well. Of course that means some days I’m euphoric and others I’m panicking that it’ll be the worst book ever, LOL.
Anyhoodle, amidst the mountain of ironing and laundry I did this weekend, the dinner out with my dude Friday night and the low point of some dire news from a friend, seeing this review was pretty darned fabulous.
Blurb: A sexy debut exploring an erotic future universe of passion, danger, and deceit…
On the battleground or in the bedroom, one woman and two men fight for dominance in a bold, new, and excitingly different direction in erotica…
As a lieutenant of the Federation military, Sera Ayers is accustomed to giving orders, not taking them. Now she must obey the one man she can’t stand—and can’t stop thinking about.
With the enemy Imperialists gaining ground, a covert team is assembled by Ash Walker. Ten years before, Sera had lovingly submitted to Ash’s dominance in the bedroom. But when he was forced into a political marriage, she refused to play mistress. His marriage now over, Ash wants Sera on his team—and back in his bed.
The third team member, Brandt Pela, has an elegance to match Ash’s savage sexuality. And when their undercover plan requires Sera to pose as Brandt’s lover, it ignites a passion among the three of them more dangerous than their mission.

Love love me some movies. I could watch movies all day. And have on many many occasions. I used to work for a movie theatre and let me tell you going to movies all day for free, ROCKED!
There some really cool movies coming out soon. And I’m such a nerd in some cases that I will write down the opening day of some on my calendar. I don’t necessarily go on that day, I hate crowds, but I will find an afternoon somewhere to go see it.
I like to go to the movies on my own. I always have. I enjoy them better that way. I get my box of Reece’s Pieces, small iced tea, or bottle of water, sometimes a package of red licorice, and I’m good to go. I find a seat away from everyone else, in a row fairly close to the screen. And I’m in heaven.
There are some movies coming out soon that I’m dying to see.
October:
RocknRolla - I love Guy Richie films, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is one of my favorite films, plus Gerard Butler is in this one.
Max Payne - Mark Wahlberg shooting stuff up with a killer soundtrack based on a graphic novel, um, it can’t better than that
November:
Quantam of Solace - hunky Daniel Craig as 007. Need I say more?
Twilight - Stephanie Meyer’s phenom book come to life
The Road - also based on a book, an Ophra book no less, starring Viggo. Can’t wait for this one.
December:
The Day the Earth Stood Still - a remake, starring Keanu Reeves, I don’t know, there’s just something about Keanu I like
And the one I’ve been waiting for…for months and months…
March of 2009:
The Watchmen - based on an awesome graphic novel written in the 80’s. CAN’T FRAKKING WAIT!
Here’s the trailer for you to enjoy.
Any movies you’re looking foward to?
I actually made this yesterday but as I’m deep in edit country, I’ll toss it up here for your enjoyment. Or something, LOL!
