I heart vampires

Sorry I’m late to the party…life and all that…

Vampires, vampires, everywhere.  Everywhere you look on the shelves, and on TV, there are vampires.  And I have to say it makes me very very happy.  I love a great vampire tale.  I also like to write about them, as my latest Nocturne book reveals…The Vampire’s Quest.

The vampire in question is Kellen Falcon, the former ballistics expert from the Otherworld Crime Unit in Necropolis.  Now, he’s on a mission of his own. To find the cure for the disease running rampant in his veins before it drives him insane.

So in honor of Kellen and all the vampires out there…here is a list of my favorite vampire books/series (that are either about those vampires, or have vampires playing prominent parts in the story) TV shows and movies.  They aren’t just for Halloween.  Enjoy vampires every day of the year!

“The Lost Boys” is one of my favorite vampire movies, in part because it makes me nostalgic for high school (when I saw it) and Santa Cruz (where I went to college and it was partly filmed). For books, I really like Chelsea Quinn Yarbro’s Count St. Germain series, and Christopher Moore’s Bloodsucking fiends. Thanks!

  2. Denise A. Agnew Says:

Definitely loved Moonlight and love True Blood. The Lost Boys is a great, fun movie. I loved Dracula with Gary Oldman. Very sensual, lush production. Fright Night was also fun, and loved both Underworld movies. Van Helsing was great, too.

I wrote a vampire trilogy but after that didn’t have any other ideas for vampires. :)

Anita Blake is one of my favorite characters in a vampire series. Even though she is not one she has Jean Claude wrapped up. Gotta Love Laurell K Hamilton

Have to say that I love the Blood Books by Tanya Huff and the show that was made from them, Blood Ties. The books were great but the show truly made the books come alive for me. I’ve seen a lot of vampires but I have to say that my favorite vampire would have to be Henry Fitzroy played by Kyle Schmid on Blood Ties. He played the character with just enough aristocracy and arrogance to let you know that he was a royal yet he made us feel sympathy for something that we would ordinarily think of as the devil. Henry was not a whiny vampire as most are, complaining about their lot in life, he had made peace with it and had made the best of it.

My other favorite books would have to be the Dark Hunter Series by Sherilynn Kenyon. Once you start reading them you can’t stop. She writes them with great humor and wit, and her main characters are always dark and sexy.

Well, I’ll have to mention MaryJanice Davidson’s Undead series, and Michele Bardsley’s Broken Heart series, because vampire novels don’t always have to be dark and
edgy. Sometimes they can be pee-your-pants-cause-you’re laughing so hard funny!

  6. Amy S. Says:

One of my fave movies is The Lost Boys and I’m so glad they finally made a sequel to it.

  7. Pamk Says:

will have to say that your list of authors contain some new to me ones that I’ll definitely be checking out. Cause the ones I know I love.

  8. Virginia Hendricks Says:

The Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. Its a very good series :)

  9. Pam P Says:

Jeaniene Frost’s Bones is one hot vamp. I never did read Tanya Huffs’ books yet but was sorry when Blood Ties bases on her books went off the air. Dresden Files, too, Harry was starting to grow on me just as it was canceled.

  10. Caffey Says:

The only vampire show I watched was MOONLIGHT and I so wished it was still on! I’d love to be able to watch Buffy and Angels right from the beginning! So I plan to get the videos to start those!

I have alot of favorites with Vampire Romance books. So I’m just mentioning a few off the top of my head that maybe some people missed that were great too:

DARK FIRE by Denise Agnew, SACRAMENT by Susan Squires, DESCENT INTO DARKNESS by Denyse Bridger, BE MINE TONIGHT by Kathryn Smith, MY LORD VAMPIRE by Debbie Raleigh.

  11. Leslie Says:

The shows I like are Buffy and Angel - loved Spike!

I like a lot of the movies and books you mentioned. I also like Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series.

  12. catie Says:

Spike from BtVS. He went from menacing and cruel, to annoying and comical, to heart-wrenching and sympathetic (yet still devilishly witty with an extra helping of snark).

  13. Janelle Says:

 For some reason I’ve always liked vampire stories too. I loved the Dead books by Charlaine Harris (not in love w/ True Blood). But, my favorite is the show Blood Ties. The character Henry Fitzroy in particular. I’m not one who usually goes crazy over stuff or seeks out other fans, but this show proved me wrong. If you haven’t seen Blood Ties, you really should check it out (there are full episodes online).

I’ve always loved vampire stories. Some of my the first vampire books I read were YA; by LJ Smith. And they’re being republished now. I think Rhage from the BDB series is my favorite vampire thus far. And as for shows… who doesn’t like Buffy, if you’re a fangly fan?
Movies - I have to say the first one that came to mind was Interview with a Vampire. That’s old school.

  15. juliana Says:

Buffy and Angel all the way for television. I think my fave vamp book of all time is The Queen of the Damned by Ann Rice. Loved it more then Interview, and Lestat…

  16. Vivi Anna Says:

You know I’ve never been one for Buffy or Angel. Or Anne Rice for that matter. I couldn’t get through even one of her books.

  17. juliana Says:

Anne Rice books….either you love em or hate em. I tried to get into her witch series and just couldn’t. But loved her vampire series….What’s the first vamp book you remember reading?

  18. Vivi Anna Says:

Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and Salem’s Lot by Stephen King both when I was maybe 12/13.

The next I remember is Bite by Richard Laymon, and Vampires by John Steakley.

My first foray into vampires as protaganist, was Sonja Blue series by Nancy Collins, and is still one of my favorite heroines. I read Anne Rice in there as well.

  19. juliana Says:

I’ve never read Bram Stokers’s Dracula….but Salem’s Lot….very good. never heard of the Sonja Blue series…might have to check it out…have a good one!
