(First, a quick note: The Bradford Bunch recently changed web hosts. If you commented yesterday and you don’t see your comment–please let me know. We tried to move all comments, but if one or two slipped by, I apologize!) Now, on to my post for today:
I love it when I read a book or I watch a movie, and later (hours, days), I’m still thinking about one of the characters. A character that keeps living in my mind–one that makes me think and wonder or one that just makes me happy to remember…that is one great character.
I think Nora Roberts created a truly outstanding heroine in Eve Dallas (her J.D. Robb books). And Linda Howard made me absolutely fall in love with Wolf Mackenzie in Mackenzie’s Mountain. Yep, that book was my first Howard read, and I was hooked after that.
Multi-dimensional characters–heroes and heroines with real flaws, painful pasts, and strong spirits–those are unforgettable folks.
When I think of movies…I tend to focus more on villains. Maybe it’s because I love to read romances, but when it comes to movie watching, I’m more of a horror/scary show kind of girl. Hannibal Lecter was unforgettable to me. Not because of his gruesome acts (although, yeah, those made an impression!), but because of his cold calculation and absolute brilliance at mind games. He was chilling, evil, and unforgettable.
But what about you? Are there any unforgettable characters that you’d like to share with me?
(And a final note: Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!! May your day be filled with green…and may it be a glorious day! )

Happy St Patrick’s Day to all.
Memorable characters? Oh my, too many–particularly from well written romances.
From other genres…
Dalziel, the robot from Asimov’s Positronic Robots and Foundation stories.
Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Thief (Maurice Leblanc)
Henri du Lagardère (Paul Féval)
Captain Nemo (Jules Verne)
Miss Marple (Agatha Christie)
I could keep going, but I’ll stop now *grin*

Of course, every time there’s a question like this, I blank. However, one character did come to mind - that nobody will know about. It was this Chinese dramas from the early/mid 90’s. Love triangles, sisterly rivalry, etc. The older sister was the blessed child, and a very talented ballerina. The day her boyfriend was going to break up with her [and begin a relationship with the younger sister] - they got in a motorcycle accident, and she lost her leg. Basically, her life too. (The younger sister was the main character.) The boyfriend had no spine, so he stayed with the older sister, but pined for the younger sister. Older sister got fed up, and one day served her husband a “special meal” - her prosthesis on a plate. [He threw up.]
I don’t think I’ll ever forget that.

I’m with azteclady, I like Miss Marple, too. She might be nosy, but she always gets the villain. I also love Hercule Poirot for his quirkiness. One of my favorite romance heroes is Lyon from Julie Garwood’s “The Lion’s Lady.”

I have to agree about JD Robbs Eve Dallas being an unforgettable character.

limecello–that movie sure sounds like something I’d like!
Hi, Jane! Oh, I loved that Garwood book!
Estella–don’t you just love her? She is truly one of my all time favorites.
Virginia, I haven’t read that book yet, but I have heard some wonderful things about it.

How about Stephanie Plum? She’s a live wire! I also like Precious Ramotswe (I think I misspelled her last name) from Alexander McCall Smith’s series, the first book being “The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency”. If you’ve never read this powerful series, rush out and do yourself a favor. I read the first one for free at my local library, for our monthly book club read, and I HAD to get the rest. I think there are 8 books in the series. Precious is so wonderful- a “traditionally built” woman who solves mysteries in her native Botswana. I love that it’s not overly violent but heartwarming stories.

Allegreto in SHADOWHEART by Laura Kinsale. He’s a very insteresting, hard to forget character. Especially if you read about him in FOR MY LADYS HEART by LK first. I’m not sure if I really like him, though.
I do like Gabriel, Richard and Devil in Stephanie Lauren’s Cynster novels (and the rest of the Cynsters). And have read them many times.

Great blog! How cool to mention Miss Marple. I loved her! Of course Jane Austen’s Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. And Loretta Chase’s Jessica Trent and Sebastian Ballister in Lord of Scoundrels. Dashiell Hammett’s Nick and Nora Charles. I even have the 6 Thin Man DVDs.
