This is one of those lists days for the lazy. Which happens to be me today.
As kids we often dream of things we want to do as adults, when we reach that magical age where so many opportunities open to us. As we become older we often forget that childhood wonder and stop dreaming. As a writer I’m always dreaming about something. As an author who loves to write suspense, I think of some pretty bizarre scenes on a daily basis. And I mean daily! Here’s some scenes I don’t plan to reenact, even if my characters might.
1. Travel down the Amazon in a rowboat. Or any kind of boat for that matter.
2. Ride in a helicopter. Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m not fond of helicopters.
3. Walk out on the glass observatory at the Grand Canyon. I’m going there this summer but skipping the stepping off the edge into nothing experience.
4. Wrestling a Komodo Dragon.
5. Jumping into a river of piranhas.
6. Swimming with a shark.
7. Skydiving.
8. Hunting real animals with my compound archery bow. (My bow is for target shooting only, thanks very much.)
9. Seeing a bear in the wild. We have them in the area, but I’d rather not see one up close.
10. Seeing a mountain lion in the wild. Yep, we have them in the area, and I’d rather not see those up close either.
Hey, maybe I should write a heroine that is chicken of everything! Just kidding. Tell me a few things you plan to never do, and you may win a free download of my Ellora’s Cave jungle adventure JUNGLE FEVER (warning, erotic romance content.) I’ll select a winner at the end of the day. Happy adventures and happy dreaming!

Hey Denise
I will probably never bungee jump, go to antartica (I don’t like the cold) or get anywhere near a komodo dragon

Beth,
Yep, I’ll probably never go anywhere in antartica or bungee jump either.

LOL Interesting list.
I second … or third… the no bungee jumping thing. And skydiving. I’d also never be a contestant on Fear Factor. Bleck.

I too will never walk out on that glass observatory in the Grand Canyon (hello–glass…it breaks). I won’t go to Yellowstone again when they’re doing road construction (long drops and narrow roads don’t mix well), luckily my hubby was driving so I could close my eyes (smiles). Lastly, I will never go on a reality TV show where you have to touch, eat, or be locked up with snakes, spiders, or bugs.

I will never voluntarily jump off a bridge! Or out of a plane!

Hi Denise,
I would never go bungee jumping, go on fear factor although I love watching the show
I would never jump out of the plan unless it’s a serious emergency that is needed for me to jump out. Never go hunting, and I agree with your #3.

I’ll never go hang gliding or bungee jumping.

I’ll never bungee jump, sky dive, hang glide, or be a contestant on Survivor.

Fun topic!! Let’s see… I’ll never be a vegetarian. Just love my meat too much. I’ll never take the miracle of my children for granted…those side moments where I spew about their inner monsters noninclusive. I’ll never be an extrovert. Really, I do try to socialize, but just struggle to come out of my shell other than with very close friends and then, of course, my family.

Hi Beth!
Yeah, Antartica doesn’t seem like somewhere I want to go either.

Jolene, girl…now why wouldn’t you finish a manuscript and publish it?

Christine,
Yeah, Fear Factor goes for a lot of bugs and gross stuff, doesn’t it? I’ve seen about half of one of those shows.

Rebekah,
The scariest road I’ve ever been on is Red Mountain Pass from Durango to Silverton, Colorado. No guard rail! At least there wasn’t the last time I was on there, which was a long time ago.

MMM,
I have two nephews who have done the parachuting and the bungee thing, but they were way more adventurous in their youth that I ever was.

Estella,
Yeah, I keep thinking there has to be a better way to win a million than do Survivor, eh? The bugs alone would be enough to send me over the edge into a straight jacket.

Reading,
I think the thing about the glass observatory bridge in Grand Canyon…well, being a disaster minded author who is always thinking of suspense things…I keep seeing there being an earthquake there and the bridge just falling off or falling into little pieces. OY! Call me paranoid. But I do have an imagination.

Jodi Lynn,
I’m an introvert at heart, but I trained myself to be an extrovert when I need to be. I can turn it on automatically if I need it. Besides the fact that I had jobs in the past where I was either an extrovert or they would have fired me. No way I could have survived otherwise.

Yep. I am trying to do the same. When I was a kid, I was very much the introvert. Now I can sometimes turn it on, but then sometimes nothing will get it to emergy and I just feel awkward and very shy.
Congrats to Rebekah!! The story sounds excellent, particularly without the bugs.
June 27th, 2008 at 7:10 am
Yay! This is awesome I never win anything…but if I had to choose to win something it would definitely be books/stories. Thanks so much, I’m really looking forward to reading Jungle Fever it sounds great! Oh, and um–thanks for sparing the bugs (LOL).

I’m too late for the contest (darn!) but I just had to jump in and say that I’ve done numbers 9 and 10 on Denise’s list. Number 9 wasn’t too bad; I saw a bear in the wild, when I was safely inside my parents’ cabin: he was little, and being chased by both a dog and a man with a camera. Number 10 was scary: I was hiking in Northern California with my friend Kim, and I saw a mountain lion peaking out of the brush. Luckily I spotted it before we got too close; we just turned around and went back the other direction. (Don’t know if that’s the recommended course of action, but it worked for us!)
