Inspiration

I am really bowled under with deadlines right now—two at the day job and two writing deadlines, all of April 1. In other words, I am in need of lots of inspiration to help me keep my head above water. One thing that always helps with the day job is just knowing I need a paycheck, so I have to do the work to get paid. With the night job (writing), inspiration comes from the obvious of happy readers, getting paid again (always a much-needed blessing), and also keeping my muse happy.

Of course, my muse doesn’t always make it easy for me to keep her happy. She likes to be fickle and make it hard to impossible for me to concentrate enough to get my work done. Or make me focus more on being tired than on the end goal of meeting these deadlines so I can take off a week for pure R&R when all is wrapped up. In these moments, I need all the added inspiration I can get. I have always loved inspirational quotes in these times. A handful of some of my favorites follow…

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” -Eleanor Roosevelt

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” -Eleanor Roosevelt

“The best way out is always through.” -Robert Frost

“Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.” -Confucius

Do you have any favorite inspirational quotes, be they from famous people or family, friends or even yourself? Share them with me, and I will draw a random commenter to receive an e-ARC of Hot For It, which releases from SPICE Brief April 1st… just on time for my week of R&R to kick off!

    Hi Jodi,
Good luck meeting all your deadlines! Here are two quotes I liked:
When we accept tough jobs as a challenge and wade into them with joy and enthusiasm, miracles can happen.- Arland Gilbert

Wherever you go, go with all your heart.- Confucius

Warning: I love quotes and keep a notebook full of them. Here are a few of my faves:

If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. ~~ H. D. Thoreau

We are all laying in the gutter, but some of us are looking up at the stars. ~~ Oscar Wilde

Imagination is more important than knowledge. ~~ A. Einstein

Genius is oner percent inspiration and ninety nine percent perspiration. ~~ T. A. Edison

We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special. ~~ Stephen Hawkins

We write to taste life twice: in the moment and in retrospect. ~~ Anaïs Nin

Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall. ~~ Confucius

If you are going through hell, keep going. ~~ Sir Winston Churchill

Good luck with all your deadlines, Jodi.

    Hi Jodi,

I have one for my email signature that really seems to describe me all too well….

Oldest enough to know better, young enough to do it again!

Another one I love from Phyllis Diller:

Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing.

  4. Jane Says:

Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.-Sun Tzu

  5. Tina Brunelle Says:

quote I love the most is religous mother teresa God doesnt give me anything I cannot handle I just wished he didnt trust me so much. It so fits my life!!!

  6. Estella Says:

My favorite quote is: When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

  7. JC Says:

One of my favorite quotes accompanied a picture of a Pegasus in the sky and a horse on the ground. The quote was:
“‘Why are you up there?’ asked the horse.
‘No no,’ replied the Pegasus. ‘The question is, why are you down there?’”

I like it because the Pegasus and the horse are the same, except the Pegasus is brave enough to use his wings.

I also like, “If thine enemy wrong thee, buy each of his children a drum.” If you have younger siblings or children, you instantly get this quote. I love it because it is a really creative, non-confrontational view of revenge. Not that I’m a vengeful person, but if you have a problem, find a way to make the circumstances work with you.

    Thanks Limey! :)

Very good quotes. I particularly liked the first.

Thanks for the well wishes, Azteclady. I got a kick out of the quote by good ol’ Al. :) Loved the star one. I don’t think I’ve heard that before, but it’s so true and very poignant. Good stuff!

Ah, Jane, you picked one that is always in my mind. Not that I really have enemies, but I have some colleagues who I just have to question their mindset sometimes. This thought seems to come up in those situations. Be nice and keep them close, though you totally think they are nuts. LOL!

  11. Jodi Lynn Copeland Says:

Great one by Phyllis Diller, Laura! I’ve always enjoyed her humor. And she is so right. I still have to do mine or I get crazy for all the clutter, but it’s such a thankless task.

  12. Jodi Lynn Copeland Says:

Very nice, JC. I love the symbolism of that as well. I have a very romantic soul–probably not a big surprise–and it’s accompanied by a love for deeper thoughts.

  13. Virginia H. Says:

I love quotes. Here’s a couple. A person who won’t read has no advantage over one who can’t read. Mark Twain.

A job is not worth doing if you can’t do the job right.

  14. Janet H Says:

I have no idea who said this:

You can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your family.

This is a very common thought at a lot of our family gatherings and reunions. (Mine and his)
