The Bradford Bunch

It’s the most wonderful time…

It’s the most wonderful time…to drink beer. Yes, I sometimes sing beer instead of year, but the kid is picking up on it. So I gotta be careful!

Hi, again! I’m Shelli Stevens, and I’m back blogging at the Bradford Bunch. Only this time I’m a new addition here! Yay! What a fun blog to be a part of.

It’s the holidays and you’re either loving every minute of it or counting the days until it’s over. Or I suppose you could be in that middle ground. Can you guess which side I fall on? I’m all about the holidays.

I start the holiday music playing mid-November. In fact, I don’t allow anything except holiday music or movies in my house until after the holidays (yes, I’m a wee bit obsessive!). I even have a holiday playlist that I workout to on the elliptical for an hour–finding an hour’s worth of high energy holiday music was a challenge!

Now I’m going to talk about holiday movies. What’s a must and what’s a miss on your list?

Now, I know many out there would probably rattle off It’s a Wonderful Life as their fave. Me? Not so much. I mean it’s fabulous and all, but once I’ve seen it, why go through the tears again?

Though sometimes I don’t mind the tears. And one of my favorite holiday movies (though it’s not totally holiday) is Love Actually. And, really, this is my favorite movie of all time. It makes me cry and laugh and hope… it’s just fabulous, showing all sides of love, not just the obvious one. If you haven’t seen it, definitely put it on your list.

But my other staple, because I just love to laugh, is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Share with me your favorite holiday movie. And since I’m officially new here I’ll throw an impromptu contest. Out of the commenters I’ll draw a name tomorrow and the winner can have any of my ebooks off my backlist (I’d say print, but I’m not going ANYWHERE near the post office right now! ;) )

This is an easy one for me ;- )
Definitely How The Grinch Stole Christmas-the original animated version. It is so wonderfully clever and funny and has such a beautiful message. I watch it every year and enjoy it just as much each time!

  2. Vivi Anna Says:

Yup Shelli, Love Actually is a fabulous movie, it is one of my faves too. I also love Elf and Grinch with Jim Carrey. Oh, I also love The Family Stone, it is full of great amazing characters.

  3. Johnny Peregrine Says:

A Christmas Story…even with it being played so many times, I still love it!

    It’s a major award!!!!

Christmas Vacation is up there too!

  4. shellistevens Says:

Cheryl, the Grinch is definitely a classic. Short enough for a kid’s attention span too!

Vivi Anna, I’m loving Elf lately as well! Haven’t seen The Family Stone. I should check it out.

Johnny, oh that’s definitely a winner! I want one of those lamps!

  5. Miranda Says:

It is my mother’s favorite, and even though I am a daddy’s girl, it is my favorite too - Miracle on 34th street no matter the version!

  6. Joder Says:

Johnny is quite correct! A Christmas Story is the best movie ever! The family is so realistic and there’s a lot of funny lines/moments.

And I’m a purist so the original version of Miracle on 34th Street is the best.

And if you want a good laugh, watch Mystery Science Theater 3000’s episode of Santa Clause Conquers the Martians. LOL bad, but in a good way!

Hi Shelli! Happy Holidays Countdown to everyone. I would have to put A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Bridget Jones’ Diary on the list… especially the latter. I first saw BJD on video around Christmastime… surrounded by my sisters during a family reunion. And doesn’t the movie start (and end) with pivotal scenes during the Christmas season? Well, for many good reasons, that movie screams “holiday” to me, though I’m just as happy to watch it any other time of the year too!

  8. Jane Says:

“A Christmas Story” is my favorite. I never miss the 24 hr marathon. “Holiday Inn” is also a favorite.

  9. Kelly Jamieson Says:

Oh I love Love Actually too Shelli! You’re so right about it. And yes Christmas Vacation is a must watch every year in our house. It reminds me of my dear dad, gone many years now, of how he awlays had the best of intentions but always managed to screw things up!

  10. Cathy M Says:

The Christmas Story is part of our tree decorating day, and it still makes us laugh. Can’t believe I haven’t watched Love Actually, yet, thanks for the tip.

My favorite is still A Charlie Brown Christmas–I love that scraggly little tree and the whole Peanuts gang! Hope you’re enjoying the month, Shelli!

  15. limecello Says:

Ok - I’m with a number of others- A Charlie Brown Christmas for sure. I :X can’t even think of other movies I generally see around the holidays. O_o James Bond marathons come to mind - but that’s not right :P
I love all the Charlie Brown holiday specials.

    Happy Holidays, Everyone!

  16. Linda Henderson Says:

I like How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Christmas Vacation and White Christmas. Just watched all of them this week. May everyone have a wonderful and safe holiday season.

Our family X-mas movie is THE REF. We tried IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE a couple of years ago, but we happened upon the scene in which Jimmy Stewart’s character is getting beaten up and neither my parents, nor I could stand going further. We’ll stick with F-bombs & hostages for our holiday fare, thank you very much.

  18. shellistevens Says:

And the winner is Johnny Peregrine. Johnny email me whatever ebook of mine you’d like and in what format!

Thanks to all who commented! Have a happy holiday! :D
