Happy Wednesday, everyone!
Today, my thoughts are about murder (and not just because I started watching Season Two of Dexter last night). I’ve recently finished my rough draft and I’m starting to go back through the story–do my layering, check for plot points–and kill. Yep, I’m going back to kill off a character.
In the book I wrote right before this one (Midnight’s Master–set to come out July 09), I decided to spare a character that I’d planned to kill.
Now, well, I’m killing a guy I had thought to spare. Wonder if I’ll always keep flip-flopping like this…
One thing, though, that I won’t do in a romance novel is kill off a hero or a heroine–promise! That’s just not something I could see myself doing. I’d have too much invested in those characters, and killing them, well, it would be like killing a very, very good friend. Besides, it’s real hard to have a happy ending without a hero around.
But, enough about murder…
Next week, I have a new release.
EVERLASTING BAD BOYS will hit store shelves on August 26th! This is a paranormal romance anthology (the authors are Shelly Laurenston, Noelle Mack, and me). I love the tagline for this book. Very simple: “Talk about staying power…” The tagline made me laugh the first time I saw it.
Want to win an autographed copy of EVERLASTING BAD BOYS? Then just tell me your favorite tagline–from a book or a movie, and I’ll be back on Friday to pick one commenter to win!

I wish I could remember the line “Oz” (Seth Green) used in the one episode of BUFFY, ‘cuz truly–was there ever a better line written than: “This time…it’s personal.”
August 20th, 2008 at 8:35 am
Congrats on the upcoming release. Well as for my favorite line I have to say there are 2. I’ve recently bought the Starship Troopers Trilogy with Casper Van Dien staring in the first and third movie. Here are my fav. lines that is said a couple of times throughout the trilogy that really caught me attention:
“Come on you apes! You wanna live forever?!”
and
“It’s a good day to die!”

Some of my favorite tag lines are from Demolition man when Sandra Buulock says “Take this job and shovel it” and she also say “You really Licked his a**.” I thought they were so funny. I also like Faiths say in Buffy the Vampire slayer, she always say Five by Five.

Ooo, that’s a great tagline. I just went downstairs and looked at books I checked out from the library yesterday, and probably the best was “New York Times bestselling writer”.
August 20th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
My favorite tagline is “Life’s a Party. Crash It” from Wedding Crashes.
August 20th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Thanks, Jolene! Oh, that’s one of my favorite lines!
Hi, Catie! Oz…ah, the memories! I loved that character.
Thank you, Phoebe. Those are great lines!
Rebekah, I loved that movie! Saundra was hilarious!
Hey, Edie! I can’t think of a sweeter tag than that!
LOL, Jane, I am going to try and use that line today.

I just saw The Druid Made Me Do It by Natale Stenzel at WW and on the cover is ” Sometimes it’s good to be guilty”. Kinda makes you wonder how good. *G*
August 20th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
The Crow keeps coming to mind. I especially liked the scene where he uses this line: And I say, “I’m dead,” and I move.
August 20th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Some awesome taglines have been used. But I happen to truly love this one “There can be only one” from Highlander, The Series. Adrian Paul as Duncan McCloud of the clan McCloud - HOT! HOT! HOT!
August 20th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
Something like, “Tell me…do you feel lucky?”
Well, I hope I am come Friday when I win the book. I am loving Hotter After Midnight!

“They’re here…” — Poltergeist (Simple, but two words forever linked with this movie.)
“In love, there are no boundaries.” — The English Patient
Some funny ones:
“Grab Life By the Ball” -Dodgeball
“You Will Believe a Man can Fly” - Superman
“You Will Believe a Cow can Fly” - Twister
Lie Cheat Steal Rinse Repeat — Matchstick Men

That is a fantastic tagline, Cynthia! I love it. Of course, I’m blanking on tag lines - so I’ll just pick one for a show that’s being hyped a lot - “No one is safe.” Hopefully Heroes has a great season. Or “A touch of romance./ A touch of mystery./ A touch of magic.” - for Pushing Daisies.
I feel so not-clever.
August 20th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
LMAO @ “But enough about murder.” Good luck with your killing spree, not that one is a spree, but it sounds cooler.

It’s nothing personal. Terminator 2
On a good day he’s a great cop. On a bad day he’s the best there is. - Die Hard with a Vengeance
This time… It’s personal. Jaws: The Revenge

Hi Cynthia!
I didn’t know Dexter started already and I missed it!! I’m going to have to watch for that in a rerun much later on! I’d love to be in the contest!
First thing that came to mine was a company tagline, ‘Where’s The Beef’ from Wendy’s LOL. Those old woman on the commercials, I can still picture them!
And too “Its The Real Thing” for Coke Cola
I couldn’t resist, LOL.
I don’t watch movies, so I just thought of one from Love story “Love Means Never Having To Say Sorry”
August 21st, 2008 at 1:02 am
How about Butterfly McQueen in GWTW: “I don’t know nothin’ bout birthin babies.”
Have fun murdering your character. It sounds very therapeutic.
August 21st, 2008 at 5:15 am
Oh, I am a huge, huge, huge Star Wars fanatic…..
but I’m not a nerd, really!!!!! So of course my favorite
will always be ” May the force be with you ” I think this line is and will forever be universally, no,intergalactically famous!
August 21st, 2008 at 7:42 am
Hi, acdaisy! Love that Diehard line!
Caffey–I’m sorry–I should have said that I was watching the DVD. I don’t have Showtime so I just bought the second season DVD–and I’m burning through it as fast as I can!
Ah, Stacie, an immortal line.
Hey, Cheryl! Another immortal line! One that I find myself using way too often…
August 21st, 2008 at 9:45 am
Well believe it or not I just started the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer,
“About three things I was absolutely positive
1 Edward was a vampire
2 there was a part of him and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be that thirsted for my blood
3 I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him”
August 21st, 2008 at 11:32 am
Well, there’s the best last line to any movie ever, from “Some Like It Hot”:
“Nobody’s perfect.”
You have to see the movie to appreciate that one, but if you haven’t seen it, you should! You’ll thank me later!
Another one I like, also the last line of the film, is from “The Lost Boys”:
“One thing about Santa Carla I never could stomach. All the damn vampires!”
Joss Whedon has a ton of them. From Dr Horrible’s Sing-a-long blog, there’s “The hammer is my penis.”
And I’ll close with my signature, because everyone always gets a kick out of it, which is from Angel:
“Angel, it’s not like this is the first time I had sex under a mystical influence. I went to U C Santa Cruz.”
These are fun!
August 21st, 2008 at 2:58 pm
The first tagline that comes to mind as awesome:
“In space, no one can hear you scream.”
–ALIEN (or maybe it was ALIENS)
August 21st, 2008 at 3:01 pm
I love it when arnie in the terminator movies says I’ll be back!
or virgin alarm from space balls
congrates on the releasse!
August 21st, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Great list so far. A couple from some of my favorite books:
“A cool-as-ice Special Ops hero. An adversary so hot, she’s coded red…” On The Loose by Tara Janzen
“No one can resist the spell of a bad boy…” Sexy Devil by Sasha White
“Only a man who was pure magic could catch her…” The Smoke Thief by Shana Abe
August 21st, 2008 at 5:06 pm
I LOVE Hannibal Lecter when he says something in the way of “I ate him with fava beans and a bottle of chianti” (or something like that). You have to admit, Anthony Hopkins plays a wild psycho!
August 21st, 2008 at 6:40 pm
My fave is Bruce Willis in Die Hard. Yippie-kay-yay, motherf*****. Congrats on the upcoming release!
August 21st, 2008 at 10:38 pm
He’s a doll. He’s a dreamboat. He’s a delinquent.
This is from Johnny Depp’s Cry Baby…my daughter loves this movie…she is 11 and just thinks it is the best movie ever.
“What if someone you never met, someone you never saw, someone you never knew was the only someone for you?” From Sleepless in Seattle
Keeping my fingers crossed!
August 22nd, 2008 at 4:32 am
My favorite tagline is from the new Twilight movie:
“When you can live forever
what do you live for?”
August 22nd, 2008 at 4:37 am
Oooh Margay, that’s a good tag line! I love the Twilight series.
August 22nd, 2008 at 4:41 am
Me, too. I’m not ashamed to say that I read the whole series and went to a Breaking Dawn party at Borders with my daughters and am looking forward to the movie. This series is a great arc and it’s full of great quotes, but the one for the movie just gets me every time.
August 22nd, 2008 at 4:47 am
awwww, that’s so cool! I can’t wait for the movie. Sadly I haven’t gotten past the first book and the sample excerpt for the second. I need to get my butt down to the library, I can’t wait to see what happens next. This is quickly becoming the “Harry Potter” of the YA vampire loving set.
August 22nd, 2008 at 6:50 am
