The demons are coming…

MIDNIGHT’S MASTER releases in less than a week (June 30). LESS THAN A WEEK?! Where did the time go? :-) And how fast will these next few days pass by?

This is the first book I’ve written in which the hero is a demon.  And he’s a killer. The guy hasn’t killed just once either. Sigh. No, because that would have been easy!  Instead, Niol is a guy with a dark and bloody past, a guy who isn’t completely evil, but he’s certainly not entirely good, either.

And, yes, as my friend Edie told me, the guy on the cover does look a bit like Dexter. I guess that I have to confess–I think Dexter (well, the character who plays him) is sexy.  What can I say?  Maybe I’m just drawn to bad guys. They’re exciting. They’re dangerous.  And they can always guarantee a time you’ll never forget.

So today, I’m curious…who is your favorite bad guy?  From a book, movie, TV show, um, real life–anything goes. Just tell me about him.

Oh, and if you’d like to read the blurb for my bad guy tale, here it is:

In a world of shadows, desire conquers all…

Tall, dark, and formidable, Niol Lapen is the last demon on earth most people would ask for a favor, yet the sexy little reporter who wanders into his club dares to do exactly that. Holly Storm already knows too much about his kind, and Niol has no wish to help her get in deeper over her head. But working alongside her may be the only way to stop a killer, even as it ignites a primal desire unlike anything he’s known.

Holly has seen firsthand what Niol is capable of, but that doesn’t frighten her nearly as much as her body’s instinctive reaction to him, or the wild, fierce passion that would tempt her to follow him through hell itself. Something evil and relentless is prowling the streets of Atlanta. And as Holly’s search leads her into danger that even Niol could never have predicted, she’ll uncover a secret that could rip her world apart.

Cynthia! Midnight’s Master released yesterday here in Canada  My copy is winging it’s way here as we speak, courtesy of Chapters. Now excuse me, I’m off to stalk the mailman

I love a GOOD bad guy. I love Hannibal Lecter when reading The Silence of the Lambs. And he became my role model when judging a bad guy.

In romance, I have soft spot for a reformed bad guy, which is the reason why I really have to get my hand on this book.

  3. Vivi Anna Says:

Yup, I love me some Dexter. I think he’s damn sexy in a dark twisted way.

Professor Snape (although it’s likely because I think Alan Rickman is the bomb) is sexy to me

Eric from True Blood, he’s bad, very bad and capable of so much blood and terror, but mmm, he’s to die for

  4. Edie Says:

Can’t wait to read this! All your books are winners, and you keep getting better.

I like Vivi’s answer. I’m an Alan Rickman fan, too. It’s his voice that gets me. And we don’t know for sure if Snape is a villain (until the last HP book), and that uncertainty adds to the fascination.

Just wanted to stop by and say congrats Cynthia on your upcoming release. I can’t wait to get my hands on this book.

    Ohhhhh bad guys

Well, mine have shades of gray. Arsene Lupin, Gentleman Thief (books by Maurice Leblanc) and Rocambole (by P. A. Ponson du Terrail). They have murky motivations and what most would consider a skewed sense of honor.

  7. Jacqueline L. Says:

I do like me some bad boys but my mind is drawing a blank, probably because I didn’t have any caffeine this morning. I have to agree with azteclady, though. I love Arsène Lupin.

  8. Melissa Says:

    LOL, I’m stalking you, Cynthia!!
My FAVORITE bad guy?? Hmmm….that is kinda hard. Linda Howard has a bad guy in one of her books several years ago, All The Queens Men. I loved that guy….he was bad, but you find out that his daughter is dying and he’s willing to do anything to keep her alive…..you have to read it to get the whole story line, but I found myself hoping that one day he’d have his own story, that he’d find a happy ending. Still do, lol, but I’ve heard she’s not about to write it.
And Lisa Marie Rice has a gun runner in Dangerous Secrets who we got small peeks at….I’m pretty sure he’s the hero of one of her upcoming books, and I can’t wait to see how she’ll redeem him.

  9. Brandy Says:

Spike. No, really. *G* Niol for sure. *G* And I’d have to say Roarke from J.D. Robb books, because he was very mad, bad and dangerous to know until the love of his life came along. Now, he’s still a bit bad ( but only for Eve) and civilized, to a degree. *G*

  10. Jane Says:

Magneto from the X-Men comics is one of my favorite bad guys. Although he’s a bad guy, his backstory makes him a very sympathetic character.

  11. chey Says:

    Hi Cynthia,
My favourite bad guy is Snape too.

  12. Pam P Says:

Favorite bad boys - Sawyer on Lost, and Jericho Barrons in Moning’s Fever series

  13. Larena Wirum Says:

favorite bad boy what about Keifer Sutherland in Lost Boys.
