Hi! It’s another new face at the Bradford Bunch! Actually, I have two faces, so I’m just slightly disoriented. I’m a 2010 double-debut author (hm, that sounds faintly kinky). I write as Maggie Robinson and Margaret Rowe. Maggie’s Mistress by Mistake is coming out on April 27 from Kensington Brava, and Margaret’s Tempting Eden arrives on June 1 from Berkley Heat. My family has enough trouble with one of me, so there have been adjustments all around.
When I started writing in 2003, I really had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I’m not so sure I do now, either, but I’m looking forward to getting my dream realized after seven years. Part of me can’t wait. The other part (see? I told you I was disoriented) is scared to death. The thought of reviews is daunting. People tell me not to read them. I’ve taken some risks (particularly as Margaret Rowe) which might be considered controversial. But before I know it, the waiting game will be over.
You can read excerpts of both books at my websites, www.maggierobinson.net and www.margaretrowe.net. Just don’t tell me you don’t like them.
Got any tips for a new author? What makes you take a chance on an unfamiliar writer? I have some beautiful bookmarks and coverflats I’ll send to everyone who makes a comment below to calm me down and make the wait more bearable. You can send your mailing address to maggie@maggierobinson.net and a packet will be on its way. Have the happiest of holidays! I hope your 2010 is as exciting but not as nerve-wracking as mine.

Hey there! Glad to have you here with us. And I love the excerpts on both books. Can’t wait to read them. I think the thing that makes me want to take a risk on an unknown author is if they’re writing in a genre/subject I’m interested in reading at the moment, and I love their excerpt.

Hi Maggie,
Congrats on your upcoming debut release. I’m always willing to try a new author. It’s great when one of my favorite authors recommends a new author.

Congrats on the upcoming double debut! The one thing that makes me want to read the work of a new author is quite frankly, enjoying reading an excerpt of the book. Covers can be attractive and make me pick up a book, but it is the generally browsing a portion of the book that decides me one way or the other.
And yes, your covers are wonderful.

Love your covers and your books sound wonderful! I guess for me sometimes it’s the title or cover that catches my eye. Or when I read what the book is about. I don’t mind taking chances on new authors. I have been mostly lucky on all new authors I have read. Maybe only a couple I didn;t care for & I found someone else whom enjoyed their books so I passed them on to a friend.

Little Lamb Lost, I know I had trouble deciding exactly what excerpts to put up on my websites. Now I’ll be even more vigilant, LOL. It’s hard to know how much is just enough.
Sue, thanks! A beautiful cover can’t hurt, but I probably pay more attention to the cover copy on the back. I also know a couple of friends whose tastes are similar to mine, and I depend on them for recs.
