Win an ARC!

nye-014Out of the FedEx box and into my heart! The ARCs (advanced reader copies) for my debut book Mistress by Mistake arrived a few days ago, and I’m still so excited. I hear from my writing friends that paper-bound ARCs are getting kind of rare—a lot of publishers are doing everything electronically. But I have real-honest-to-goodness-books that I can hold in my hand, and I’d like to share that experience with you! MBM does not come out until April 27, but here’s your chance to get a reading head start. This is an uncorrected proof, but by my estimate there are only 6-7 teeny tiny mistakes, which should in no way impede your enjoyment of the first book in the Courtesan Court Trilogy.

Please leave a comment below telling me how you like to read—paper or pixels? Do you own an e-reader, and if you do, what kind is it? How many books do you buy in an average month (print and e)? AND if you also go to my website, http://www.maggierobinson.net and sign up for my newsletter, I’ll  enter your name twice in the ARC drawing. I’ll notify the randomly-selected winner by January 25th and mail out a pretty red ARC, and include a coverflat as well, so you can dress it up. ;)

Look for more ARC and other giveaways as I begin the Mistress Countdown. Good luck!

I love to hold a real book in my hands, and as I do not have an e-reader I have to read ebooks on the computer, and truthfully I do not enjoy it. I tend to skip, and the book has to be amazing to keep my interest. I only read if I have to.

I try not to buy too many books, instead I give so many hints around bday and xmas.

  2. Elyssa Papa Says:

Yay, Maggie!!!! Trust me, everyone, you do NOT want to miss this book.

  3. Lynette Says:

I don’t have an e-reader , though I do occassionally read pdf’s on my computer. With small kids it’s hard to spend a lot of time sitting on the computer reading. It’s easier to be to have the actual print book, but I imagine that would be different if I had a dedicated reading device. I read a lot from my library, and so far this month I’ve actually bought 4 books all print. Last month the books I bought were all PDF’s from web-sites. It goes in cycles. LOL.

Congratulations on your debut. It looks really interesting and I’d love to win a copy.

  4. Jamie Says:

I have a weakness for books. If I go to a bookstore I can’t just get one book. Sometimes I bring home 3 or 4. Its like an addiction, but at least its not a bad one. For Christmas, Santa brought me a Kindle and I love it! I tend to go through books pretty fast esp when I’m on vaction so for me instead of bringing 3 paperbacks I can bring the Kindle and have many. I do miss the actual book but I’ve decided that if I LOVE the book and the cover is amazing the I will go and buy it.

Congrats on your debut! I can not wait to read it!

  5. Terri C Says:

I do not own an e-reader, have no interest in them. I love the old hand-held paperback! I mostly buy used books and the amount I buy per month depends.

    Thanks for having a contest!

  6. Deb's Book Nook Says:

I love books regardless of their form but have to admit a real book is much more enjoyable.

I wish I had an e-reader, just for the convenience and ability to carry more books at once but so far I’m making it reading the occasional book on my laptop.

As far as purchasing books, I’ve had to really cut back and I hate that. I see so many books I really want! As a former romance manager for a bookstore, and now the romance readers group coordinator at our local library, I’m always on the watch for new books. Just wish I had the money to indulge my book habit as much as I would like.

I’ll go sign up for your newsletter too!

  7. maggierobinson Says:

Deb, I’ve cut back too, mostly because I try to spend my free time writing rather than reading (and my husband used to yell at me just a little bit about how many books I bought for “research,” LOL).

Terri, I used to be anti-e, but now I think I need to examine that. I’m going on vacation (a cruise) in February and have limited suitcase room. If I had an e-reader I’d load it up and not worry about running out of books to read in the middle of the ocean!

Ely, I’m going to have to start paying you. XXOO.

Jamie, sound like you’ve found the perfect compromise. I’d like to get my hands on a Nook to check one out.

Lynette, my library doesn’t really stock many romances, so I blame them for my many book purchases. Fortunately I sway with friends sometimes (like Ely), which helps.

blodeuedd, I know what you mean about the skimming, but sometimes I do that in print too.*g* And sometimes—gasp—I read the ending before I get there, LOL.

  8. Tiffany Clare Says:

Seconding, Ely! You DO NOT want to miss this awesome, awesome story!

I have no ereader–sad I know. I tried reading a book on my iTouch.. lasted two paragraphs! LOL

  9. maggierobinson Says:

Uh, that would be SWAP with friends, LOL. Altho sometimes I do sway…and stray. Tiff and I exchange books too, but the dang Canadian customs officers must think we are doing nefarious things when they open stuff up. And Tiff—I don’t even have an iTouch, iPod, good cellphone, etc. I need to upgrade my life!

  10. Tracey D Says:

I have an ereader but I still buy paperbacks. I use the ereader to purchase and read books by lesser know authors and publishing companies. Some lesser know authors do not publish in paper form, just ebook form.

I have started many book series in paperback and will continue to read them in paperback.

  11. The_Book_Queen Says:

I prefer good ol’ print, myself. I don’t have an e-reader, so when I do read ebooks, I have to do so using a PDF file on my computer. Like blodeuedd said, when I read books this way, I tend to skip over things more, unless the book is really interesting and holds my attention– more so than it would in a print novel. But, I still read a fair amount of e-books despite the fact because I’m receiving more and more to review that way. Oh well. :D It’s still reading a book, right?!

I use to buy an average of… 10 books or so a month (print). But lately, due to money problems and my own personal goals to cut back on buying until my mountain (AKA, TBR pile) goes down, I’ve been buying only one or two books a month, sometimes even going two months without buying one. However, I like to drop tons of hints around birthdays and XMas to family and friends, and whether it’s the print book or Gift Cards to buy my own, my numbers jump around these months. :D

    Enjoy!
    TBQ

  12. maggierobinson Says:

Tracy, you’ve got the best of both worlds!

  13. Maureen Says:

I read print books and don’t have an e-reader. I’m sure that someday it will be what we are all using but I’m enjoying my print books right now.

  14. Amber E. Says:

Hi Maggie! T agree with you, I love to have the actual real book in my hands. I don’t have an e-reader, so I don’t know much about that.

As to how many books I buy, I’m trying to watch it and buy the one’s I think I’ll reread over and over. Although it doesn’t always work out that way. I love to read and always joke that eventually the books will take over the house.

Conratulations on your upcoming release, I can’t wait!

  15. Bev Says:

Hi Maggie!! I can only pray I’ll win a copy. :D I can’t wait to see this book on the book store shelves.

I am lucky enough to have been given a Sony ereader and I LOVE IT!!! But I do love my paper books a tad better.

    Bev

  16. maggierobinson Says:

It’s funny, Amber—I hardly ever re-read books. I still keep some of them though for “someday.” My biggest regret was giving all my Georgette Heyer books away. I would re-read them if I had them now (No sex, but just fabulous, witty writing, LOL).

Maureen, I think you’re right about becoming paperless. I work in a high school library and the kids would much rather do research on the computers than use the thousands of books we have. I use online research myself almost exclusively—how convenient to be able to read a primary source on Google Books when I live in the middle of nowhere, Maine.

Bev, something tells me an ARC is in your future. If you are really careful…*g*

  17. Calila Says:

I’m more of a hold the book in my hands kind of reader. Nothing can replace the smell of a new book! I don’t own an eReader…mostly because of how expensive they are. I do have a few eBooks on my computer. I tend to buy about 16 books a month…give or take.

Congrats on the debut! I can’t wait to read MBM.

  18. maggierobinson Says:

Calila, I’m waiting for the price to come down, too, which I’m sure it will—just like every electronic device. I also don’t trust myself—if I could buy books instantly with a touch of a button, I’d really go broke!

  19. Quilt Lady Says:

I do not have and e-book reader, so I am a paper person all the way. I love the feel of that book in my have and to be able to turn those pages. I don’t like to read a book on the computer but I have. Maybe if I had a reader it would be different. I guess I really don’t like change.

Congrats on your new release, I love the cover, its so pretty.

  20. maggierobinson Says:

Thanks, Quilt Lady. I love my cover! I have another book out in June (Tempting Eden as Margaret Rowe) and that cover is equally gorgeous. I feel so lucky with the choice of cover art (which I had nothing to do with!).

I try to look at change as a good thing, so maybe I should just go ahead and get an e-reader and try to figure out all the dang buttons, LOL.

  21. Tina Leonard Says:

    Maggie, congratulations!! It’s so exciting!!

I wish I had an e-reader! Alas, I am still hoarding books in every closet and nook. We moved so I could have more room for books.

Seriously, how awesome is an ARC!! You go, girl!! I love the name of the series, too–Courtesan Court Trilogy. Way cool!

  22. maggierobinson Says:

Tina, honest truth. Laura called me to offer representation in August 2008 after reading my Margaret Rowe book Tempting Eden. When I was babbling on the phone like a complete idiot trying to explain what I was working on next, I tried to describe my made-up street in London, and I said the words “Courtesan Court” for the first time, completely spur-of-the-moment. Until then I had just referred to it as Jane Street. I credit Laura as my inadvertent inspiration, LOL.

  23. catie james Says:

I like both, but tend to stick more with print partially because my software is now out-of-date which makes downloading new ebooks impossible and because I have SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MANY print editions crowding my shelves. I own a Sony eReader 505 and it is a nifty lil’ device. For “keepers” though, nothing beats a print version.

  24. Teresa W. Says:

I don’t care much for e-books, I would rather be holding the book in my hands! Good luck on your release!

  25. maggierobinson Says:

Thanks for stopping by, Catie. I know as soon as I take the plunge and buy an e-reader, a brand-new-better thing will come along, and it will be cheaper too.

Teresa, thank you. Since I spend so much time staring at a screen both for my day job and my writing, right now I perfer curling up with a book in my hands too.

  26. Elisabeth Naughton Says:

Maggie…congrats!!!! That’s so exciting. I never had arcs with my first three books but my pub told me they’re sending me arcs for MARKED (also an April 27th book) sometime in the next few weeks. I have to admit…I’m a little giddy about getting my hands on it so early.

As for reading…I’m a paper, hold-the-book-in-my-hands kind of girl. I love feeling the book between my fingers.

  27. maggierobinson Says:

Elisabeth, I guess I know who’s going to be crazy right along with me on April 27, LOL. I must admit I am sooo nervous. I’ve started to schedule a blog tour for both books and I figure by the end of June I will be mindless and wordless.

  28. Host Says:

Congrats on your new release!!! I really LOVE to read printed books. The experience with e-books is just not the same. I don’t own an e-reader, although e-books are cheaper and I could buy more than my average of 2 books a month.

  29. Little Lamb Lost Says:

Congrats on the impending release! I read both paper and pixel but much prefer paper. My trusty ebookwise and my computer are what I use to read ebooks. The latter has a neat advantage, one pays online and the story arrives immediately. My book purchases have been much pared down to just a book or so a month and that has been mostly paper since the titles were ones that had been released in only that format when I was purchasing.

  30. Little Lamb Lost Says:

Oops, forgot to mention that I subscribed to your newsletter.

  31. JK Coi Says:

Congratulations! I can’t wait to buy as many copies of this book as I can to give to everyone I know. Having been lucky enough to already read it, I can definitely say it’s NOT to be missed :)

I do have an ereader, a Sony, and I find it very convenient and still very satisfying. Sadly, not all the books I want to buy are available though, so I find myself buying paperback. And again, there are some that I would still buy in print just because I “collect” certain authors’ work and would want to have them on display :)

  32. maggierobinson Says:

Little Lamb, every now and again when I run out of stuff to read in the middle of the night I realize how easy it would be to order something online. So far, I’ve been good. But I did download a lot of free Harlequin books when they did their special promotion, some of which I just remembered I haven’t read yet! Thanks for subscribing to my newsletter!

  33. Jane Says:

Congrats on receiving your ARC copies, Maggie. Most of the books I read are paper. I do read ebooks, but since I don’t have an ereader I read them on my computer. I read about 8 print books a month. I’ve signed up for your newsletter.

  34. Amanda Says:

I love to have paper but I do read ebooks through the kindle app on my iphone. I would say I read maybe 10 books a month.

  35. maggierobinson Says:

Jane, thanks. I used to read so much more before I wrote, probably 3-4 books a week. No more.

Amanda, I’m getting my daughter’s assistance when it comes to picking out a new phone. Mine is so ancient it doesn’t even hold a charge anymore. :)All the apps make me dizzy!

  36. Melissa Says:

I read a pretty good mix of both ~~ I currently have an eBookwise, but I have a Kindle winging it’s way to me right now !! SQUEEeeeeeeeeeee!! And while I love reading ebooks, I still LOVE to have a physical copy of a book in my hand at times. And if a book is a keeper? Whether it’s an ebook only or just bought e version, I’ll buy the print as soon as it’s available if I LOVE it. There is something comforting about looking at my booksshelves and seeing all my favorite authors and books staring back at me!! Huh, how many books I buy varies ~~ this month and the last two weeks of last month have been hard on my book budget, lol. There have been SO many incredible releases, and of course I had to buy them ALL, so I have to say I’ve easily bought 25 books within a 3 week span. Yup, I’m book broke!! Normally I try to limit myself to a 2 or 3 print books a week, and sometimes 4 or 5 e books a month. I see that changing w/ the Kindle…and the plus side is that I’ll save money on the books, though!!
Congrats on getting your first ARC ~~ that must be an incredible feeling!!

  37. maggierobinson Says:

“Book-broke!” I love it, Melissa! I figure I’ll probably never earn back all the money I’ve spent on romance novels over the years.

Yeah, I went to Walmart yestrday for envelopes and came back with two more books to add to my TBR bag (they fell over in the pile, so now they’re safe, LOL).

And yes, getting the ARCs was incredible. I’ll probably faint when I get the “real” book.

  38. JK Coi Says:

Eek! I’m sure I posted me squees about your book already today, but I guess it didn’t take!! Congratulations!

I have an ereader and I love it, but that hasn’t completely replaced print books, and I’m not sure it ever will. It is definitely convenient though, and doesn’t take away from my enjoyment of a great book!

  39. JK Coi Says:

Um, yep. Now I found it

  40. maggierobinson Says:

JK, squeeing is entirely unnecessary but appreciated, LOL. (I have the best crit partners in the world!)

  41. Barbara Elness Says:

I have a large TBR pile - several book shelves full actually, so an e-reader doesn’t seem like a good idea right now. I actually love to hold the book in my hands and electronic books just don’t do it for me. That’s not to say if I get my hands on an e-book that I wouldn’t read it. I love to read, however it is presented. And most likely I’ll end up with an e-reader at some point, just not for the forseeable future.
Let’s see, I think I brought home about 8-10 books this month, and it’s not over yet. I think that’s about typical - they were all print books. I did read one e-book though this month, it was Linnea Sinclair’s Rebels & Lovers, which was excellent - I’ll most likely buy it when it comes out as well.

  42. maggierobinson Says:

Hi, Barbara!Right now I’ve got too many unread books, too. But I’m hoping to take a bunch of them on vacation next month and fix that little problem. There’s nothing I like better than sitting in the sunshine and reading (well, I guess there might be one or two things I like better. )

  43. Joder Says:

I have a Sony pocket ereader which I’ve really been enjoying since I bought it for myself for Christmas. I buy an equal amount of e and print books each month–somewhere around 5 or 6 of each (I have a book budget that I’m strict about sticking to).

And I too have a massive tbr pile which is why I’m really starting to limit myself on how many books I buy.

  44. maggierobinson Says:

Joder, I like the idea of buying your own present. That way you get exactly what you want! My best present this year was a beautiful red Cross pen so I can sign my books in Nashville (and I didn’t buy it for myself–my youngest daughter gave it to me). I cried when I opened it. :)

  45. piper Says:

I own a Sony e-reader and I love it. I am not buying any more paperbacks for the simple reason that my husband bought me the ebook to cut down on clutter. However even if that weren’t the motivation, I’d still be buying the ebooks.

  46. Deb H. Says:

I definitely love the feel of a book in my hands. I enjoy the literal feeling turning the pages to see what happens next. I can sit curled up in my fave chair, on a lawn chair, in a swing, or in bed.
I buy anywhere from 5 to 15 books a month. My little bookstore is 40 minutes away, so I do stock up when I go there. Sometimes my TBR pile is a mountain. Right now there are so many great books out that I want, my mental list of TBB books is a huge mountain! LOL

  47. maggierobinson Says:

Piper, I used to spend so much time arranging books in my houses “to make a statement.” Now they’re just every whichway (and I work in a library!). It might be nice to have less clutter.

Deb, we have 2 small bookstores in my town–one is extemely highbrow and they do not stock romances at all. The other has a fairly decent selection, and what they don’t have they will order. But I usually order most of my stuff online if I can’t find it there or at the local Walmart. That one-click shopping is dangerous!

  48. Monica Says:

I don’t have a ereader, but I would definitely be interested in trying one out. Stupid question, but where do you get them. I’d like to hold one and sample it before purchasing. As for actual paper books, I honestly prefer hardcover… Just not their price!!

Looking forward to reading your books!

  49. Mary Danielson Says:

Hi Maggie! I am very torn on the e-reader v. paper books debate. For now, I’m not giving up on either medium and find myself buying buying about 50% e-books. I love the ease of my Kindle, but the soul of a book.

My Kindle is always in my purse and constantly in use, but I still love and buy my paper books. For certain authors, I *have* to own the paper book (either to have a complete shelf, because they use footnotes, or they just have awesome covers!), but for a lot of new-to-me authors I automatically buy the e-version.
Also, if I’m to impatient to go to a bookstore, I just download! Which isn’t the best for my wallet. I’m such an impulse book buyer. ;-)

  50. Mariska Says:

I really like the smell of paper when i read a book
and since i don’t have any e-reader i usually read e-books in my PC, but i have left that habit long time ago. it just not so convenience for me anymore.

at this time, i only can buy 2-3 books a month. since i’m not working anymore. just to be a full time mommy :)

  51. Melissa Says:

When are you going to be in Nashville? For RWA or for a signing before then? I’m so going to try to make the big RWA signing ~~ I love that it’s close enough this year that I can!!
Yeah, and book broke is how I usually am!! I’m like you, I can’t go anywhere that sells them that I don’t come out w/ one. Grocery? Yeah, I can find books there. I even found a Brenda Joyce book in the Salvage store the other day!! LOL, Hi, my name is Meliss and I’m a book addcit!!
And Mary ~~ that is kind of what I’m afraid of w/ my new Kindle. No control. I’ve already bought like 6 books, and I don’t even have it yet, lol. But one of the biggest attractions for ME about the eReader was the fact that there were so many authors out there I was dying to read who ONLY had e versions of their books out…I bought and printed out for a while, but wow, that can get expensive, and I hate sitting at my desk and reading, so…got a eBookwise, which is a GREAT little reader, and you can’t beat the price. If I could get instant downloads, and access to all the titles at Amazon or B&N? I’d still be happy w/ it.

  52. Julie Says:

I much prefer reading a real book to reading an e-book; to me, it’s an experience all onto itself. I want to buy books all the time, haha; however, the limits of being on a budget are frustratingly constraining, so I try to control it to a once-a-month binge.

  53. Michelle Santiago Says:

i prefer real books to electronic books. it just doesn’t feel the same reading from an e-reader–not that i have a “real” one but i did download a reader app for my itouch. maybe the reading experience is different if i read through a kindle or a nook than my itouch but i still prefer print.

  54. MichelleR Says:

I love my Kindle. Spend way too much money “feeding” her. I probably average about an e-book purchase a day.

  55. maggierobinson Says:

Michelle, I do know that reading off a computer screen drives me crazy, but I do think these hand-held devices try to simulate the “feel” of holding a book in your hand. But like Mary and Melissa said, then there’s no limit about the # of books you’ll buy because you “can,” unless you run over your credit card limit, which I probably would, LOL.

Monica, I think if you’re lucky to live near a big box bookstore (which I’m not) you can test-drive e-readers. I’m like you. I want to “see” things, which does reduce my online shopping to some degree. I want to feel the dress, etc. :)

Julie, before I cut back, I was awful. Every single time I went to any kind of store, I’d come home with books. In the summer when I’m off work, I was reading a book a day at least. Now because of time constraints I know I’m missing out on some wonderful books, but mine are my priorities!

Melissa, I’ll be in Nashville for the whole convention, probably arriving the day before the official start (the 27?). I’m so nervous and excited I’m bringing an entourage—my best friend and two of my daughters. We want to go out and sing in some honky-tonks, LOL. Nashville, watch out.

Hey, Mary! You are one dangerous, book-buying woman. But it sounds like you’ve got the perfect system going on. And people, she even named her Kindle, like a pet!

  56. maggierobinson Says:

Michelle R, just missed you! What are we doing up so early (or maybe you’re just up late)? You are every author’s dream! A book a day!

I’ve got to say after reading all the responses here I do think an e-reader is in my future…just have to figure out which one. Around Christmas I really wanted to get my hands on a Nook but they were sold out.

  57. INCiDeNT Says:

I prefer to hold the physical paper and ink book in my hands rather than having to sit and read of a computer screen 24/7 which is my current situation with e-books. I don’t own an e-reader either, but would like to purchase one - it would probably be a whole lot more easier to read on! My usu. amount of books per month varies from 5-7 for print books.

I also signed up for your newsletter via my email: vimto.syn@googlemail.com

  58. maggierobinson Says:

Good morning, Incident! I truly wonder how much longer paper is in our future. But I’m all for choice—whatever gets people to read, and you sound like you read a lot! Thanks for signing up for the newsletter. :)

  59. Pray & Wait for the Mambo | Literary Escapism Says:

[...] Robinson is giving away a copy of her debut novel, Mistress by Mistake.  Contest ends January [...]

  60. Booklover1335 Says:

    Hi Maggie,
Congrats on your book. April isn’t that far away :) I will take a romance novel that I want to read in ANY form. Paper or pixel. As long as I can get it in my little booklover hands, I’m a happy camper. Although I’ve found that I read faster with my Sony e-reader than I do a paper copy.

I still buy more books in print than I do ebooks since most ebooks are the same price, if not more than the print counterparts. And if I’m going to pay the same amount I want to be able to hold the book…look at the beautiful cover and if I love it pass it on to a friend. Something you can’t do with an ebook.

I would so love to win an ARC, which is why I’ve also signed up for your newsletter under cldivineATyahooDOTcom. Please sign me up for both Maggie and Margaret’s newsletters as both of you sound intriguing :)

  61. RubyJohnson Says:

I don’t own an e-reader, but I do download some books on my computer. I much rather have a book in my hands.

  62. maggierobinson Says:

Booklover, believe me, right now I don’t feel intriguing. I woke up at 4 to do my usual early AM writing and it’s definitely time for bed! Thanks for signing up for the newsletter.

Ruby,I’d rather have a book in my hands too. But I really need to borrow somebody’s e-reader to see what that feels like as well. Some of my students have them—I’ll have to see if I can bribe them!

  63. Shay T Says:

I got my first e-reader, a Kindle, yesterday. So I can’t say what i like the best yet. i still plan on buying physical copies of book. i love the feel of them in my hands. I buy maybe 2 or 3 books a month. that will probably increase now that i have my kindle.

  64. maggierobinson Says:

Hey, The Book Queen! If you are still out there, for some reason your comment did not show up for me until last night, when I got notified in e-mail. Same thing for you, Kris with your first comment. Weird. I don’t want you to feel ignored!

TBQ, I don’t trust my family to buy me books, but I do take gift cards.

Congrats, Shay! I hope you have fun with it and don’t go bankrupt buying books, LOL.

  65. Melissa Says:

I got my Kindle yesterday, too!! I’m all giddy!! LOL, and trying to control the book buying urge ~~ but I’m having a blast playing w/ it!! Luckily I had downloaded Kindle for PC when it first came out and have been downloading all the free offerings, so I’ve transferred those to my Kindle, so I have lots of books allready!! YEAH!!

  66. Joder Says:

Btw, I’m a doof and forgot to mention in my original post that I signed up for your newsletter for an extra entry.

Congrats Mel on getting your Kindle! As I said, I’ve really been enjoying my Sony eReader and can’t believe I held off buying it for as long as I did.

  67. maggierobinson Says:

Melissa, I’m jealous now. Gotta get an e-reader!

Joder, thanks for signing up. I’ll make sure I double your chances. :)

Oh thank you for this wonderful contest!
How do I like to read? I love to hold a book in my hand. There is nothing like the feeling of the glossy cover in my hand and to smell the papers… BUT… I also own an ereader, Sony. And I do love it as well. So… my heart is always torn, but no matter what.. I will own the book. How many do I buy in a month.. depends on the month… my worst 20something…. me being good… 5!~ And I signed up for the newletter!

Thanks, Cecile! You know, people always talk about the “smell” of new books, and I usually don’t experience that. But today I was covering a bunch of new books in the library, and wow, it was like they were drenched in perfume, and not in a good way. I put them on display, where hopefully they’ll air out!

I like to read on my Kindle and also print copies. It just depends on what kind of mood I’m in, I guess. Plus, I love to go into the bookstore and just…look, and touch, and look some more… But I do love the portability of my Kindle.

I’ve never kept count, I probably buy about 10 books/month, maybe? Plus library books and loaners as well.

  71. Patti Says:

Oops - I forgot to say I signed up for your newsletter as well. Thanks so much!

  72. maggierobinson Says:

Thanks for signing up, Patti. I’ve found everybody’s e/book opinions and reading habits so interesting here. It’s so encouraging to see the sheer numbers of books that you all are reading. Yay! I guess it proves one of my students wrong, when he told me “books are obsolete.” I wanted to hit him on the head with one, LOL.

Mariska, I don’t know how I missed you before. But you ARE working, just not getting $.*g* I loved being able to stay home with my kids—all 4 of them. I didn’t go back to work until the youngest was in all-day kindergarten. I taught part-time with the first 2, but when the 3rd came, no one had clean clothes or matching socks!

  74. Erin T Says:

No e-reader for me  I buy an average of 10-12 print books a month. I can NEVER have enough to read! Thanks for the awesome contest!

  75. maggierobinson Says:

Erin, do you know what I got in my e-mail today? A big pitch to buy a Kindle! I think I’m going to eventually succumb, maybe when I’ve written what I’ve got contracted to celebrate!

  76. Melissa Says:

Maggie ~~ Do you listen to audio books, too? Amazon has a deal right now, if you sign up for a year w/ their audible.com ~~ you can get $100 of ANY audio enabled reader, but it includes the Kindle! It’s a great deal if you listen to audio books, anyway ~~ and I had NO idea the Kindle was an audio reader, too!! How cool is that? Color me giddy, lol!! I’m stocking up on the last for IN Death books I’m behind!!

Melissa, if I had a long commute, I’d think about audio books, but my drive is only 10 minutes. I did find something online tho that had a whole bunch of classics for free, and I started to listen to Northanger Abbey—which made me go re-read the book.I think I’m a better reader than a listener…just ask my husband, LOL.
