A few weeks ago, I got a wonderful email from my editor. It was totally unexpected. We’d been emailing back and forth trying to get the cover copy of HIS DARKEST HUNGER just right, when she slipped in an email, that ahem, contained the jpg of my COVER. OK, this more than anything (and I know I’ve said this about each and every step of this first venture into publication, but it’s for real this time!) was freaking awesome and totally solidified the fact that I am gonna be an author! WOOT! I can tell you it’s gorgeous, and I can’t stop staring at it. Unfortunately I’m going to have to wait before I’m allowed to unveil it to the public, but you can bet your a$$ I’ll have it up the second Esi tells me to, Make it So!
But it got me to thinking about covers and how they’ve changed over the years…..lookee what I found from the 50’s

And the 70’s

How about a Fabio cover?

They’ve come a long way for sure! I mean, Mr. Nathan I presume……

Covers have evolved a lot and in this day and age are an extremely important factor in selling your work. A great cover can increase sales, while a bad cover can hurt them. At the end of day of course the writing is crucial, but man, having a dude like the model above on your cover can do wonders!
I love the Twillight books, with the black and red, I think they’re beautiful. The one cover that stands out in my mind from my youth is a Nancy Drew novel, The Secret of Shadow Ranch. I remember Nancy on a black stallion and the ghost horse. Loved the cover and loved the book even more!
Anyone have a favorite cover? one you remember from when you were a teen? what’s the most visually stunning cover you’ve seen lately?

hm, for whatever reason the link to Showalter’s cover thingy isn’t working. I’ll see if I can fix.

…ok….nope the Fabio has to go, I don’t want them that naked…well maybe if they are covered by something else than a woman
I like too many covers, there are some pretty ones out there

Oh, when I was a teenager I was SO hooked on Johanna Lindseys covers…still love the originals of her older books. Warrior’s Woman is a favorite. And Judith McNaughts Whitney, My Love. For some reason that cover always tugged at me.
I’m partial to covers that have a nice male bod plastered on the front, lol. On a loop I’m on we were just talking about Brenda Joyce’s covers on her para’s….those are smokin’ hawt!!

I always laugh when I see Fabio on the cover
Maybe Nathan will turn to writing his own romance novels after being on so many covers…I have to say I am ready for a new face. He’s been on too many covers and is losing his appeal to grab my attention from a sea of other romance novels. I mean…when I see his face on what seems like half of the book covers it doesn’t make any of them stand out like they used to.
As far as my fav covers now…hands down Deeper by Megan Hart, and Laid Bare by Lauren Dane (and no it’s not because they are both Bradford girls). From the beginning both are visually beautiful, but once you read the story you can tell that they actually represent the book. Love them!

My favorite covers these days are the one for Nancy Haddock’s books and Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse books. Not the new version for the softcovers, but the hardcovers.

Hey Jules! I love the Kresley Cole cover image you used…went with an awesome book that still makes me squee.
My favorite covers have to be Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress covers. They’re what drew me to the series originally, and now she’s one of my favorite authors.
I’m a graphic designer so the visuals are hugely important to me.
Can’t wait to see your cover!

What is the name of the book with the Fabio-cover?
