It’s five months later after my move and I still don’t have everything where I want it… I still need things…and–disgracefully–I’m not fully unpacked yet. Well, there are a few things I don’t know where to put and some things I need to keep in a box until I get more shelves. Excuses, excuses…yeah I know.
If you’ve moved recently, how long did it take you to unpack and find the perfect spot for everything? I can use some input on this because I think I’m way too picky about stuff. Imagine that. *wry grin*
I can’t tell you just how wonderful it is to know that I’ve got my own place. This is the first time I’ve lived on my own…ever. I went from my parents, to the Navy, and then I got married…always living with someone and never being on my own…not fully. But now I am.
I took my youngest son to school one day last week and on my way home I was awash with emotion…for no reason…but it hit me just how lucky I really am. I’m healthy, my boys are healthy, I’ve got my own apartment and I don’t have to answer to ANYONE but me (woot!!). I’ve got fabulous friends who are super supportive in every possible way and did I mention I don’t have to answer to ANYONE but me? :-) I’ve got a fabulous agent who believes in me no matter what and encourages me. The Bradford Bunch is a fabulous group of authors/writers who are amazingly supportive and sooooo caring. Laura sure knows how to pick ‘em… and the Bunch is continually growing. Woot!
So, that’s what I’ve been up to for the last five months… I’m back from my hiatus and writing up a storm. I should have a little to share with you soon. I’ve missed you all TONS! HUGS!!!
PS- If you’ve moved recently, how long did it take you to unpack and find the perfect spot for everything? And how long did it take you to get everything you need for your new place? –do you ever?

I think I lived on my own for all of two months. Sometimes I miss the solitude.
How long did it take us to unpack. Well, we moved in last August (2008), unpacked most of the boxes in March and still have about 12 to go. So *cough* we’re not done yet. We’re still furnishing with funiture and stuff that “we can’t live without” and yet have so far managed to.

Hi Cinnamon! Thanks for your input. I wonder if I’ll ever be done unpacking
I have a few *cough* things that I really *need* (snort) … so I know what you mean with “we can’t live without” and yet have so far managed to
LOL

We moved into this house 7 years ago when I was pregnant with my second daughter. There are still about a dozen boxes in the basement that have never been unpacked
I find it easier to just buy something new instead of trudging all the way down there to dig through musty ole boxes. After all, my books are all upstairs, and my shoes….you know-the important stuff. Those boxes will get unpacked…someday.
Glad to have you back Marissa!

Hi Marissa and welcome back! What an amazing feeling eh? And wow, I can tell you that we moved in 2004, and just this past weekend cleaned out fruit cellar. Um, found boxes of stuff from when we moved. So, I thought if we haven’t used this stuff in five years, it’s time to go. We chucked it. like, five years later!

Hey sweetie, we’ve been in the house 15 years and still have unpacked boxes. I finally moved them out of the spare bedroom and into the garage just last year thinking I likely won’t need that stuff to get by, LOL.
Glad you’ve finally resurfaced. I’ve missed you!

You ladies are making me feel infinitely better
[It only took me something like three years to get rid of the last box]
(Okay, the last box of stuff–papers are already in boxes. In the storage closet. You know, stored)
I’ll leave before I finish digging that hole…

LOL–Azteclady… smart move. It’s amazing how many boxes of papers I had “stored”. They are all now shredded and trashed.
Hiya Lori! TY, I’ve missed you too!
Thanks Julianna… it’s great to be back… and looks like 4 years isn’t so bad… so this is good
Thanks Cheryl. I’ve missed everyone! I think if I had a basement these boxes wouldn’t bother me so much, but I’m in a 2BR apartment. so…
Thanks to everyone for their input and stories. I appreciate it.

Marissa, I’m happy to hear that you’re enjoying your own place. And do NOT feel bad about unpacking. I’ve been in my house for a year and a half–and the garage is still full of unpacked boxes. No idea when I’ll get to those!

Marissa,
Late on the uptake, but just wanted to say woot!!! Glad to hear you’re doing well and you’re writing. Music to my ears, my dear!
