Just picked up The Hunger Games this weekend

AS to why I read YA–i think there are (or at least seem to be) fewer boundaries. More genre-stretching and rule-bending. But maybe it’s just me. *shrugs*

I love YA fiction as well. Especially paranormal YA. It’s a lot of fun for my teenager and I when we’ve read the same ones and can talk about them.

Soulless by Christopher Golden is SO good - detailed, inventive, action-packed - but not only does it have all of the elements of a good horror novel, but a good novel, period. He really fleshes out the characters (no pun intended, given that it’s a zombie novel) in this and in ALL of his novels.

Have you read any of his other books? Golden has written for nearly every age group (mostly for horror/dark fantasy adults, but also plenty of YA, some of which are realistic fiction and mysteries in addition to his paranormal stories, and some juvenile sci-fi/fantasy as well) and he always tells a great story and populates his world(s) with tremendous characters.

Midnighters is very cool. Enjoy!

Yes, I read some YA, my favorites are “Twilight,” and “Blood and Chocolate.”

I also have a few favorite Kid novels, like the Harry Potter series (though it was probably YA by the last book or two) , and the July Blume Fudge series, which is definitely a Kid novel. But holy crap, I LOVE the Fudge books. So funny. And I have a writer friend who HAS a real life Superfudge.

I LURVE YA fiction and I’ll read pretty much any sub-genre therein (historical, sf, paranormal, contemporary, romance, etc.). So much more variety than when I was a teen.

I read some YA books - nothing recently though - but I’ve been buying up the sets I read as a kid - Little House, Anne of Green Gables, the Emily books, Lloyd Alexander’s and also The Dark is Rising series
I haven’t read the Twilight books, and likely won’t go see the movie :X

Hi Vivi. I love YA, especially YA sci/fantasy. There is always such potential and hope and life-altering challenges for YA characters, and young love is it’s own sweet loveliness, if that makes sense. I love receiving books I’ve ordered - it is like a very special gift to myself each time.
